93 to 96 DOHC swap

I believe you're going to have a few things like sensors in different places. However, I'm not sure b/c I don't own a LQ1. Talk to Psych0matt. He just had a '96 LQ1 swapped in to replace the '94 LQ1 in his Cutty vert.

You'll want an alternator wire harness from a 96 motor to slice yours onto. The earlier alternators will not bolt up so you will have to get a newer alt and do that. You will 100% need exhaust manifolds or headers. You can use the intake from the 93, and from what I'm told, that will give you more torque, but you will lose a little bit in the high RPMs. You will also want the sensors from a 93 and put them in the corresponding spots on the 96.

my alternator bolted right up :dunno: but yeah, ill see if i cant dig up some of the threads that helped a ton. Basically though, fairly easy.

I have the intake from the 94, and it does seem to be lacking higher up a bit, but I also hadnt driven an lq1 for almost a year.

Yes, exhast manifolds are a must, the outlets are different shapes, but they will bolt to your existing exhaust. i cant think of anything else that isnt in some other posts, so let me dig those up, and feel free to PM or IM me. Oh, and no, you don't have to switch to obd II (although I have 1.5, so I don't know if there will be any differences there)[br]Posted on: April 30, 2006, 12:58:37 AM_________________________________________________

Find dohcfiend's post about halfway down with the list, its pretty complete. He was a big help, so you might direct some questions to him as well, but most of this is fairly fresh in my mind

newer style starter, coil relocation, and mount q's in this one (the newer style start is better, and it's also cheaper I found out)

Thanks for the help. The hunt for manifolds begins :willynilly:

Couple more questions...

Is there any difference in the cams between a 91-95 or 96+ motor? If so, using a '96 motor with a '93 intake, which would be better? The ones I got from Jasper are '96s and just as worn as the ones on motor #2 (80K miles) which is a '93.

Does anyone off chance remember the link to the place with the A/C delete kit for lq1s? I can't remember it now...it's just a plate with a pulley that bolts up where the compressor goes to keep tension on the belt.

I know the available headers out there are not designed for the older W's. How much firewall modding is needed to fit them? What about clearance up front?

Since the tranny is getting rebuilt also, besides a LSD, are there any other aftermarket products to beef up a 4T60E? If not, will a 4T65E-HD bolt to an LQ1? Tranny control would be a separate box from the computer in that case.
