94Ragtop
I picked this Lumina up to fix because it had a loud tapping noise and the owner didn't want to fix it. I figured it at least had some good parts if not repairable or I might fix it if it wasn't too bad, for my kid to drive. How bad could this be? Attached pictures. What disaster am I in for by trying to fix this?
94CutlassSLCoupe
looks like the rocker arm just loosened up or the stud is almost broken
94Ragtop
The push rod is bent bad. I was thinking of just replacing it but the previous owner had some gasket work done and something could have got switched like the intake and exhaust push rods. I need to make sure the rest are correct. I have never done these before so looking for advise before I replace it and miss checking something else while its apart. Thanks, Mike
NeonKnight
The intake and exhaust pushrods are all the same length, you can not mix them up... well at least thats what i think... but they are the same length, it looks as though the rocker arm came loose from vibration, whoever did the work before must have used the wrong torque specs per the documentation in the service manuals, and internet resources Replace the pushrod, then add a new one in. You will need to take off the lower intake manifold and everything above it. You might be able to just take that pushrod out since the rocker arm and what not are moved aside. if it is possible pull out that pushrod with some pliers or something, then set another in. Now i am not sure if that will work, seeing as the rocker arm holds down the lifter and i do not know so make sure you double check with other people here on the forum before diving in. The engine is salvageable though. if you end up taking it all apart replace the main bearings and lifters to make it last longer.

19Cutlass94
The push rods for the exhaust are longer than those for the intake. Just make sure you dont have a cracked spring or theres no damage to the rocker arm or the stud. Take the rocker arm off, clean it up real good and just inspect it. But from the pictures, doesnt look too bad. You just get away with replacing a push rod
dbtk2
the pushrods are DEFINATELY a different length. i have mixed them up before and I will say the car does not run very well at all when you do that.
