94CutlassXtreme Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Does anyone know the part number for the GMPP front strut bar? I looked it up and it said it was for the 97+ Impy, GP, Regal etc...is that it? Quote
Dirty Rockstar Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 I dont know the Part number but I thought this bar could be used on our cars as well.. Didn;t Dave (Gearhead43) have this bar on his 89? Quote
J Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 thats the right bar, at least it works on my car! just when/if you get the brackets make sure you get the first gen ones edit: i don't know if i'm lucky or not, but when i ordered the brackets i chose not to have them painted (extra 8-9 bucks), and they sent me powdercoated black ones! woot Quote
intern8tion9l Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 that bar is def nice, i have it and it looks great too. only thing is it wouldn't clear my sweet under hood light, but i was willing to make the sacrifice Quote
DiscoStudd Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Courtesy of fathead45 What you will need: ***From Gmpartsdirect.com*** GM PART # 12456148 OUR PRICE: $18.32 DESCRIPTION: STRUT BAR KIT(ONE BAR KIT ONLY) For use on 1999 - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo; 2000 - 2002 Chevrolet Impala; 1997 - 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. These are production Buick strut tower braces designed to minimize body flex. The kit includes ONE strut tower braces, hardware. (THE HIGH PERFORMANCE CATALOG IS INCORRECT) If you want the kit that includes two of these braces it is part number 12498648 Easy Performance "STB Brackets" Sold by ZZPerfomance.com Info from their site... "Easy Performance "STB Brackets" are specially designed to enable quick and easy mounting of GM's OEM strut tower brace onto the front of '97 and later Grand Prixs and other W-Body models (such as Buick Regals, Oldsmobile Intrigues, Chevrolet Monte Carlos and Chevrolet Impalas). These brackets eliminate the need to drill holes into the strut towers when mounting the strut tower brace. The STB will still have ~1/4" clearance with the hood when the hood is shut. We also carry the STB brackets for earlier cars. To check fitment please check with Easy Performance." ****Before you buy these make sure you visit this link to make sure you get the right ones!!**** You will also need a 13mm to remove the strut tower bolts. How to install: 1. Remove the 2 inner bolts for the strut tower. 2. Take the brackets and put the supplied bolts from the Fbar and put them through the holes. Make sure bolts are facing up. Put the washers like things on the bolts. These are there to hold the bolts in place and not fall out. 3. Attach the brackets to the strut towers and put the bolts back into place. Do not put under the plates. 4. Test fit the F bar to both towers and make sure you dont have any issues. ****When i got mine i think i got the newer ones and had to drill the holes longer on the F bar but it did work.**** 5. Now add the bolts. 6. Enjoy the new ride. Its as simple as that. The article can be accessed here Quote
fastbird232 Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Wait, so the actual STB itself is only $20? What am I missing here?[br]Posted on: April 27, 2006, 09:53:04 AM_________________________________________________Here's the fixed ZZPerformance link: http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=139 Quote
94CutlassXtreme Posted April 27, 2006 Author Report Posted April 27, 2006 thanks, you guys rock! Quote
fastbird232 Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 So again: the kit from GM Performance Parts is the actual STB itself? I just want to make damn sure before I order this thing ASAP (I had no idea they were so cheap). Quote
Euro Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 well what you order from GMPP is JUST the bar...no brackets or anything to bolt onto your car, you need those from zzp Quote
fastbird232 Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 And I can get early model brackets from ZZP and the whole damn thing will bolt right on (I saw the installation pictures were using a 3.4 DOHC car). AWESOME! Maybe with my FE3 and Y99 suspension/handling I'll actually notice a difference? Quote
patgizz Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 you can waste your $ on brackets, or install it and drill 2 holes in each strut plate(if you've got a gen1 car). i probably have one laying around with the plates and mounting hardware and all, clearanced for dohc EGR valve. but keeping it in the hopes that one day i find a clean z34. this is what you get from GM(crappy pic) Quote
Euro Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 pat does that clear the hood? it looks to be a little to high Quote
patgizz Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 plenty of clearance. it rubs the very lowest part of the insulation, which is about 1/2" of clearance to the hood itself. Quote
AWeb80 Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 here is my GMPP bar.....but now I got a Cutty Vert bar. Quote
Euro Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 so you can just drill 2 holes...stick a couple bolts thru, and then bolt the stb to the bolts?? Quote
AWeb80 Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 yes, but drill the hole through the plate, not your actual strut tower... Quote
Euro Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 ok...i'll lhave to look sometime, i've never taken those plates off Quote
