GnatGoSplat Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Especially after getting the windows tinted on the black '94, that rear plastic edge on the door windows has really bothered me since they'd faded to a light putty color. This is a very small detail, but when my wife would pick me up for lunch at my work, that plastic edge would stand out and practically glow in the sunlight even from several hundred feet away. I just got sick of looking at it, and decided to do something about it one boring Sunday afternoon last winter. For some reason, this affects my TGP and the 94, but not the 88 and 89. GM must have changed materials at some point. Before: Masked off and painted: I had debated whether to use gloss or flat, and decided to go with gloss because I thought it'd better match the tinted windows. Not sure if I went with the right choice, but I don't notice it now so it's good enough. After: I just might be OCD, haha! Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Looks really good I just might have to do that to my cutlass sometime soon. I dont know if its just me, but it seems as if my 89 regal has a better build quality than my 92 cutlass. Maybe its just because there Buick's Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 I've been thinking about painting mine too. Glad it worked out. I might be doing that very soon. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 Sedans have that strip too? I didn't know that! Quote
runt Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 That looks really good. My old 96 was faded like that as well. I just put "Back to Black" on it and it helped some. Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 I have a very similar strip IIRC on the rear windows. Quote
slick Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 My Z has a ton of faded strips on it. Maybe i'll take your idea and paint them all up and make them look nice. Has to help sell the thing. Quote
5speedz34 Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Yeah, my plan is to eventually redo the strips on mine. I think I would rather just buy new mouldings around the windows and stuff. Quote
1990lumina Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Must have changed material in '90 because the strips on my car are fubared as well Quote
dhs1223 Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 How difficult was it to remove the trim piece on the door window glass ( how did you do it? ) and what adhesive did you use to put it back on?? Thanks Quote
ns87 Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 I have something similar in my rear door window. Mine turned to silver with surface rust Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 How difficult was it to remove the trim piece on the door window glass ( how did you do it? ) and what adhesive did you use to put it back on?? Thanks I didn't remove it at all. I think it's permanently bonded to the glass. I just masked it off, cleaned it, and spray painted it. Quote
ToroToro Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Good idea...but definitely a little OCD! My 94's look like hell too, but it never bothered me until I seen this thread. Quote
White93z34 Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 good work, something i'll have to do. i think i will use semi-gloss however. Quote
AWeb80 Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 I just might be OCD, haha! hey, i'd do the same thing. Quote
