chadz34
Ok, I want to replace my resignator wiht a piece of straight pipe, only question is, will this affect the backpressure or anytihng to make the car not run right? That's the last thing I want to have happen, but I want the car to be raspy and not dink around with it too much. Thanks.
THe_DeTAiL3R
resonator??? I don't thing there should be any adverse affects from removing it (not the same as removing the cat).
chadz34
resonator??? I don't thing there should be any adverse affects from removing it (not the same as removing the cat). Ok, good, because the 96' exhuast system is alot more restrictive than the earlier DOHC's. So, I will remove the resonator and replace it with straight pipe, so that it just has a cat and two mufflers. I'll get some pics up, I will have to use muffler cement until I can get it welded up! chadz34
FOR THE LOSE Yeah, I don't understand what that means. By deleting this resonator, I just hope to make my exhuast less restrictive.
sl3196
The RESONATOR doesn't restrict exhaust much at all. It does quite it down though so it doesn't sound like ass.(like glasspacks, ect..)
White93z34
whoever owned my z34 before me deleted the resonator, i didn't notice till quite some time later, but i have no complaints not having it, it sounds a litttle raspy in low RPMs, but not enough for me to even notice or care. car still sounds fine as far as i'm concerned. sl3196
oh yeah I'm sure my 3800 is more raspy then the 3.4 lol.
THe_DeTAiL3R
I liked how my old 2.8 sounded stock w/ no resonator

Cam'ron
not intended to hijack but this is along the same lines, what is the effect of deleting the u-bend in comparison to a resonator. i am getting this done wednesday and i am just interested if there is any negative effects

Cam'ron
ok i just wonder because the resonator is just that if is a straight through peice that dulls the sound, but the U-Bend is a functional peice, how important is it to backpressure? because my new exhaust is going to be fairly free flowing
digitaloutsider
The U-bend is there for one purpose, and that's to get a more accurate reading from the O2 sensor. The car doesn't care if the U-bend is there or not. It only cares about the O2 sensor. Stop worrying about backpressure. These aren't race cars. It doesn't matter. On a second-gen (and probably first, but they don't make one for 88-96), the most restrictive part in your exhaust is the downpipe. If you really want to free up your exhaust, I'd start with the U-bend and downpipe and then fuck with everything else.
dohcfiend
the factory resonators flow pretty well already. you will not see much from deleting it. if you are looking to uncork your exhaust i would suggest either gutting the cat or putting a high flow muffler in place of the resonator and deleting the 2 can mufflers. if u delete the 2 can muflers, you will save a little weight but it will be noticably louder. if u gut the cat it will sound louder but only when u nail it but it sounds good IMO. and if u do both.....it is super loud but a noticable power gain. mine seemed to rev faster from 4500+
White93z34
if your going to gut the cat, put piece of straight pipe in it first, because it will flow for shit otherwise.
