Psych0matt
Got home, and drove my car up the road (for the first time in like 9 months), and engine is running good (was clicking a bit at first, but went away after a minute or two). Speedo doesn't work, leading me to believe something is unplugged, cuz it worked fine even when i towed it a few weeks ago. Also, it doesn't want to shift out of first, but its not slipping or anything, fluid is normal, worked fine when the engine died: would the speedo problem (im assuming the vss) cause it not to shift? Oh yeah, also, where is it???

ToroToro
Sounds very possible that the VSS is either failing or unplugged. And yes, the transmission goes into "limp home" mode when it's unplugged/not working.

Mechanic put a different bolt to hold the airbox on, so now I cant get it off as easy as i used to be able to[br]Posted on: April 14, 2006, 05:14:50 PM_________________________________________________ok, no luck. I did find an unplugged wire (as well as noticing my oil sensor was also unplugged), it is a two wire plug, but i cant seem to find where it goes. Ive heard like 3 different explenations to where it is. any help? and also, i found a big plug that has a purple and yellow, but also has like 3 or four more little wires, this isnt it, correct? grrr, i just want to get this figured out

ToroToro
Is the big plug round by any chance? Could be the plug for the tranny's electronic controls. That would explain just about everything there. Should plug in right at the top of the tranny.
Psych0matt
there is a big round plug, plugged in, and then there is a big rectangle plug over more to the right (the one i explained), and then there is a smaller two wire plug thats coming from a main loom about right in the center of the front of the block, more or less (i still have no speedo, also)[br]Posted on: April 14, 2006, 09:34:04 PM_________________________________________________bump? :-/[br]Posted on: April 15, 2006, 09:02:45 AM_________________________________________________bump? :-/
Crazy K
VSS will be located on the passenger side, above where the differential portion of the tranny would be. basically it it on the top of the tranny case right near where the cv axle shaft comes out it will be served by a two prong connector other wires? how about better descriptions with colors and connector dimensions? is the phantom one use the same connctor like the engine bay light has? if so.. maybe its the one for the washer pump or the air intake sensor? Psych0matt
ok, heres the update: found the vss and plugged it in. aside from old gas, everything is working. Theres another wire right by the vss unplugged, I don't know what it is. also, there's a double wire plug on front, and one on back that arent plugged in (maybe unused with the 96 block?) my oil sensor still doesn't work. it looks like theres one on the rear of the block plugged in, but not the front one (i think the 96 had one back there, but not the 94, so that may just need to be moved) So, in other words, aside from my oil pressure (which didn't work before the car broke, stupid UB3) everything seems to be working how it should be
Crazy K
What do you mean the oil sensor does not work? 1 it stays pegged with the gauges powered up, whether the car is running or not. or 2 it pegs whenever the car runs but registers zero with the engine off and guages powered up. 1 means the wire is disconnected in some way. the oil sensor grounds to make the guage drop. 2 means you have a idiot light sensor installed instead of a guage sender. the idiot light sender is like 1 and 1/2 inche3 long, and the sender is three inches long btw, is your check engine light on? sensors to check..... knock sensor. it will have one single wire. IIRC it is green, and has a coocetor whose cross-profile is a 'lemon'/oval shape. map? well... how about a wire
Psych0matt
no ses light, getting good gas milage, but not as much power as i should (havent pushed it too hard though, dont want to have to redo anything) there looks to be matching two-wire plugs on front and back that arent plugged in, a three wire (IIRC) plug right by the vss, as for the oil sensor, its pegged, and has been since i put in the ub3, but i gave the guy working on my car the new sensor, but it looks like he put it on the back of the block, and the front sensor isnt plugged in (96/94 differences)
Crazy K
uh-oh... if this started due to a cluster swap, check your pins, the oil guage must be in the wrong position... on a side note... i will be in michigan for this week, from right now.... as i step out the door, thru wedsday night. in case you are near eastpointe or roseville... surbian detroit i guess... should I expect hell? Are you in flint?
Psych0matt
well, i did the cluster swap, and never switched out the snesor, so when the engine was out, i had the mechanic do it (cuz the engine was at my house, the sensor i needed in the glovebox of the car) so, to my knowledge, the oil sensor location is the front one, by the filter. the 96 i think had another one around back, that is now plugged in. I think what I need to do is get the correct sensor for the front, and plug that one in, not the back one. Is this making any sense?
Crazy K
sense yes, but I am limited on knowledge with the 3.4s, especially the newer ones.
