luminal67 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 While at the junk yards one day, I noticed a very strange bird. it was an older gp with a quad-4...weird, never saw one before. So it got me thinking, the H/O quad-4's had like 190HP. the 3.1 have like 140 and they have to weigh a bit more than a quad-4 And the quad-4 is only about10-15 HP shy of a 3.4. now i know they have some sort of head gasket problem or timing belt problem, im not sure, but this could very well be a totally unique and cheap swap. I don't know, just thinking a little bit, tought i would throw the idea out there. Let me know what you all think. -Brian- Quote
jeremy Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 that GP probably was the LO quad, the HO quads could be found in Cutlass Supremes...HO Quads are a lot of fun, I would love to have a turbo'd one. Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 the HO made 180, the LO made 160 Quote
chadz34 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 the HO made 180, the LO made 160 That's alot of fucking horse for the year. That had to be one of the top N/A 4 cyl. engines of it's time. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 It's still not bad considering my buddy's brand new SE-R Spec V only puts out 175. Quote
cutlsp Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 they did make a 190hp Quad4 the w-31 quad 4 Quote
dbtk2 Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 they did make a 190hp Quad4 the w-31 quad 4 *cough* W41 *cough* The only difference is the cams and the chip though. Just putting the w41 chip in a HO quad gives you like 5hp. The other 5 comes from the cams but also drops your torque so thats a trade off. I'd rather have the HO quad with the w41 chip. It would be an interesting swap but you'd definately want a 5 speed attached to it due to the low torque output. An HO quad 4 (180hp) has 160ft.lbs. IIRC, and a W41 has like 155ft.lbs. Whereas a 3.1 might only have 140hp but it does have 180ft.lbs. If you can find a junked w-body with a ho quad and a 5 speed then the swap would probably be pretty cheap. Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 the W41 still has 160ft. lbs torque Quote
