Lee
Lucky me, I have a leak in the proportioner valve assembly that splits the single brake line to the rear into two for each wheel. First you'd think it would be one of the brake line fittings. Nope. This thing looks like a metal block with a beveled corner. The beveled corner has a plug of some sort that is indented.....like a compression fitting nut. Each time I step on the brake it squirts fluid out of that indent. It's a dealer only part and must be replaced as a unit....they say. I'd like to know if that funky nut can be replaced or not. It just looks like a bigger fitting without a line coming out. This nut is begger than the other three that have lines coming out. I'm guessing it is a plug to give access to the internals of the valve. I'm pretty happy to find my system leak was there and not the PMIII itself.
GutlessSupreme
I can't recall exactly what part of the valve you're talking about, but I just pulled a spare out of my old TGP from the yard a few days ago. car had 140k on it, but the brakes were fine. let me know if you're interested. Lee
This is a valve assembly, not a part of a valve. It is physicaly located right next to the fuel filter below the driverside rear seat. It has the bigger brake line coming in and two smaller one going out to each rear wheel. It is a rectangle block about 2" x 3" and has one corner shaved at a 45 degree angle with a bigger nut screwed into that angled surface. If you have that I'm interested. I didn't get a call back from the junkyard so I bought some hose clamps and rubber to try to seal it up. I plan to try that this weekend then I'' know more about if I need yours or not. Thanks for the reply!!
GutlessSupreme
i meant I didn't know what part of the valve you were talking about when you mentioned the funky nut.. but since then I've looked at it and know which part you're talking about. but no, I don't know if it's replaceable/resealable. I don't think mine had an indent anywhere on it though but yes I do have the block that you're talking about off my old TGP...
Lee
Guttlass Supreme......Yes I'm wanting the part. Can you give me a shipped price to NorthWest Wisconsin, zip 54758. Citty of Osseo. Thanks. I figure it's small enough to ship in a padded envelope. I did my attepted repair. I used some rubber and a hose clamp but it still squirts by a bit. I think if I did it over again with a different type of rubber, softer rubber, it might work but I'm thinking "git er done"--right....now. Calvin
yeah buying the part is the only way to go on that. Rubber hose and hose clamps won't ever be sufficient to seal up any traditional W body hydraulic brake system.
Lee
The brake lines and fittings are fine. It is the oddball nut on the end of the proportioner valve block that leaks. The repair was more like if a brake line broke off at the fitting nut and you wanted to compress the sh*t out of the hole with a sheet of rubber. Can't hold back the pressure. Funny thing is that it only squirts out on the initial pedal push. If you keep the pedal down it doesn't seem to continue leaking. But then my pump runs everytime I push the pedal. I have a spare pressure switch but have never gotten it in. It stuck in the past and the pump wouldn't turn off. May need an accumulator too but not till I see a real problem. Thinkin' about pinching off the back brakes but that's a last choice option.
