birdman
well ive got some time off work and im finally going to do the timing and i just want to make sure ive got everything i need to do it. ive got the belt, idlers and tensioner, intake gaskets, and valve cover gaskets. is that it? and what about some hold down tools??? not super clear on that. any advise or little tricks people have come up with to make it easier or at least not to get mad and put the plenum through the windsheild? . thanks. Psych0matt
you should be on aim, for all the threads we're going back and forth on! Basically, all I did was get the belt off, i redid the pulleys of course, and lined up the factory timing marks. I've heard that some of the pre 94 (i think) engines didnt have marks, so what i would do is get vice grips or some sort of clamp to keep them in the same spot. if you do have the marks, what i did was put the crank at TDC, and lined up both sets of cogs. one set was loose when lined up, the other set was taught, but without marks, that would be hard to get lined up to the right tooth exactly. so yeah, if you have marks, use them. if not, i would do the clampage method (and not turn the crank at all). (Second time was easier cuz it was on an engine stand ) I didnt take any of the intake or anything off, theres not really a need to unless you wanted to do gaskets too. just got the serp belt out of the way, along with whatever else was on that side, and just went to town. Now my way probably isnt the most "correct" way to do it, but it worked perfectly after that. A little harder to work with, but then again i saved all the time not taking the intakes off
White93z34
remember the 91-93 3.4s have the lockrings wheras 94-97 do not. personally i wonder if stockgp is ever going to make that timing video.

I didn't realize that. Either way, can't you just avoid them?
