First off guys is this possible?? Secondly I have a brand new 3400 Intake on the floor of my shop and I am replacing an intake seal on a 3100 '95 cutlass engine.. while I am repalcing the oil pump drive seal, the intake seal, the valve cover gaskets, etc. Can use this intake are there any notable benefits in utilizing the newer intake in regards to performance or gas mileage?

Thanks!!!

Its possible, theres people who have done it. Bigger intakes = better air flow = more power.

if u install the 01 3100 upper intake its a large bore(same bore as the 3400). so ud have to do the lower intake too. b4 2000 they were small bore. so as long as u have the top and bottom ure alright

I have this done to my engine, and you need to make sure you have a 95.5 or '96 engine or you'll need newer heads. The older 3100 engines have stamped rockers, whereas the newer 3100 have roller rockers. The stamped won't clear the 3400 manifolds. My engine happened to have notches for the roller rockers. We found this out AFTER we ripped the heads off the engine. If we hadn't have done that it would have saved us an assload of time.

Basically it's a good excuse to redo your intake gaskets. Get the lower intake too, and make sure you have the gaskets for the 3400 rather than the 3100. You also will need to switch the throttle cable piece on the throttle body. Just remove the screws from the wedge in there and put the new wedge on the new throttle body with the piece you removed from the 3100 throttle body. Your old throttle cable isn't compatible with the piece in the new throttle body.

You'll also need to remove the coolant outlet fitting from the old lower intake and install it on the new lower intake. The newer coolant inlet pipe is pressed in, whereas there's a "squeeze to remove" piece on the older piping. You'll see what I mean when you get into the job.

EGR mounting is different too. You'll have to buy an EGR adapter from the 60*v6 store. (http://www.60degreev6.com/store) YOU HAVE TO HAVE A VAN 3100 PLENUM FOR THIS. The van plenum is the only one that has the vertical EGR mount. The car plenums all have the horizontally mounted ones, and they don't work with the adapter and our older EGR valves. I opted to pinch the EGR piping from the exhaust manifold (very half-assed, I might add  ) and just run without an EGR valve. This will cause the SES light to come on when you're decelerating from ~60MPH or so. It may cause a small hit in gas mileage. I've just been too lazy to buy the adapter or seek out a van plenum, mine came from a '01 Alero.

You'll gain a little in topend on the highway, that's pretty much where it'll be noticeable. I pull fairly well in third gear with the newer intakes, whereas before it was much more slow to pick up.

It's not a bad little project, and if nothing else, the 3100 intakes will look better anyway.
