NeonKnight
so i have a friend in a auto tech class who saw my away message on AIM about my engine being bad... he called me up the next day and was like hey, i have a 92 3.1 for your car. i freaking almost humped his leg... im like whats the catch? he said that i have to either take the engine out here, or bring it to them drained of oil and having all the accesories taken off. or i can just bring it to them... but i can not leave it overnight. so i said sure, his teacher said that for a Total of $150 my engine will be completely swapped out with the crate one they have. and the crate one will be taken apart and magnafluxed, bored, and checked out and rebuilt. since it has been sitting for a year or more outside. all of my sensors shall be switched over also. so this was making me sooo happy i decided to have some drinks last night well i woke up late for school this morning and missed a final haha... good times. YAY LUMINA SHALL LIVE!!!!

NeonKnight
well for sure i have to take the engine out and bring it there. they are not willing to keep my car there, they are hooking me up with an entire valvetrain, lower end, intakes, gaskets, everything. they are going to give the heads a valve job, and im trying to talk them into over boring the engine lol. the teacher is a friend of my friends dad, her dad has known this dude for sooo long. so i threw out his name and instantly he got nicer hopefully i can get this done easy lol

NeonKnight
yea, as of now the shop teacher has informed me that he has his own repair shop. So im like YAY! he said that we could keep the car there, and i can come and work on it in my spare time. but also the other student (my friend) has to be there too. since it is supposed to be a project done in class lol. but he said we can use his shop as long as we are not getting in the way. This is really nice cuz i was not sure what to do with the AC coolant... hahaha

NeonKnight
ohhh GOOD IDEA!!! i made four bucks... so maybe i will [br]Posted on: 07 April 2006, 10:15:41_________________________________________________I posted this on 60*v6 also... so if you read it once... im sorry being being lazy and doing a copy n paste (http://60degreev6.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?p=79260#79260) Well since the 3.1 in my lumina decided to have a rod knock i am now going to just replace the entire thing, i dont know how bad my engine is on the inside... but i am just going ot use this *crate* engine that i am getting from the local community college. The engine has been sitting in a crate without a topend, had a intake manifold gasket on it.. but was black plastic and old... this engine has a little rust on the block, but the cylinder walls are perfect, the pistons are the same also. i have gotten everything off the engine so far except the crankshaft and rods+pistons. I just had taken off the main bearings when the teacher of the class said i had to go because class was over. I am not a student in the class.. but a friend is. We put the heads, valves oil pan, all the heads internals into the parts washer... Minus the valve keys. one of the heads was perfect, the other one had a valve that he couldnt get out, so i used a hammer to pound it out to find that it had rust on it. so a few valves need to be replaced. all the pushrods were rusted and i would rather have new ones. I have a few questions for you Gurus! my car is a 1991 lumina Euro. It had the 3.1 is there a difference between my car... and this block, the casting number is 10110519 and i also saw somewhere on the engine it had a stamp that said 0793 does that mean it is a 93 block? Will anything be diffrent?? pretty much all i am using is the long block from this car and swapping my top end and all accesories on to it... i need to know if my wiring harness is right for it... im going to attach all the images i took into this. Also when we pulled the oil pan the engine had all this gunk and stuff on it.. i dont know what it is does anyone know? considering this engine has never seen oil... but it felt like some kind of lubricant, i am thinking either algie from the water, or maybe some kind of silicone protectant for the engine? Oh and for you 3.4 DOHC guys... what do you think is under this? It was perfectly sealed all up, i took apart the crate and wrapping on it to find out what was in there i sealed it back up, i really would love to have that in my car... but i have a 3 speed crappy trans, and dont wanna get a new tranny, and computer, and harness. fastbird232
Engine looks a tad dusty, hoss!
NeonKnight
lol yea... but the rust on it is surface.. and its been cleaned up, tomorrow i get to see it and see how well it will be done. considering i need to swap my lower intake manifold and upper intake plenum onto it. when we tear my engine down i want to see the damage... im hoping its salvageable. cuz if so i will put in extra time to swap over all the good into it.[br]Posted on: 18 April 2006, 08:47:43_________________________________________________So i just heard back from the instructor, he cleaned the engine up, crankshaft and everything is perfect. All of the rust on the block and whatnot was just surface and came off with a wire brush. He said that the oil water sludge probably protected most of the stuff. He cleaned everything up and is ordering a Gasket set for the engine. I also talked him into getting the good lower intake manifold gasket (the revised one) straight from AC delco. He said he is going to hone the cylinder walls to insure they are perfectly PERFECT! Should be done today minus the gaskets. So since the block sat outside in the rain i wonder if it is seasoned? hrmmm i dunno. im going to leave it stock, supposedly the block is a 93 i am not sure. the casting number was 10110519 and i think it had some kind of stamp on the otherside of the block that said something like "0793G" or something like that... i dont know. All i know is that the engine is a block casting of 10110519 which was used from 91-93. and on the sides of the block there is a huge T cast into it.
