chadz34 Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 I did the idle re-learn on my 96' LS DOHC Lumina becuase I had the battery unhooked and I figured it would be a good idea. And, since I have done that, it runs smoother and my transmission seems to work better, it doesn't lower in the rpm's it stays at 1,900 rpm at about 60km/h. Which is great! in addition, I polished my MAF and throttle body and added a K&N air filter since they were on sale at Canadian Tire! Quote
3pt1lumina Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 How did you polish the MAF and throttle body?? Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Every time Ive ever disconnected the battery Ive never had to so this. Good to hear everything worked out for ya. I know how you could polish the TB but the MAF? Quote
1990lumina Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Cool.....that idle relarn never worked properly for my car...I usually just drive it around fora bit and it'll eventually figure things out Quote
chadz34 Posted April 3, 2006 Author Report Posted April 3, 2006 How did you polish the MAF and throttle body?? I used Mother's Aluminum polish. I took apart the MAF, and it's intake and polished the inside to a glass finish. Next time I have the intake off, I will post a picture. I never took the throttle body completely off either, I did as far as my fingers would go. Still I can tell the difference and it just runs alot smoother and cleaner. Quote
skiiirt Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 1900 @ 60km/h?!?! Under acceleration? When I am cruising down a flat road at 60km/h im at about 1250 rpm Quote

When I am cruising down a flat road at 60km/h im at about 1250 rpm About that, does yuor rpm drop and feel ''locked'' in gear? Of course unless you really get on it? Mine lowers, and I tohught that was a problem. Quote
skiiirt Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 Not really. If I slow down a fair bit it will lock but usually I have a whole gear to work with. Mind you my transmission has 230,000KM on it and hasn't exactly been serviced it's whole life (nothing in the vehicle's service records transmission service) I just got the pan dropped and replaced with new oil as well re-sealed the gaskets. - 500km ago Quote
chadz34 Posted April 5, 2006 Author Report Posted April 5, 2006 I think the 96 DOHC has a torque converter lockup, cause my 92' Z34 doesn't do it. Quote
