cutlassconvertible
Hey i had my cutlass parked for about 6 months with a full tank of gas. now it doesnt start. I have no fuel pressure. I know that when you turn the key the fuel pump is supposed to power for like 2 sec. but im not hearing it at all so im pretty sure the pump isnt working. i know i had it changed about 6months to a year before it was parked, so im pretty sure that the actual pump is good. maybe its just needs a kick start or something. any ideas?? SigEpCutlass
it could be defective ya never know? The only thing I can think of that would cause the fuel pump not to work properly is if there's a damn good amount of water or moisture that has accumulated in the line. HOWEVER, if you don't hear the pump when you turn the key, I'd say there's a 99% chance it's bad.
jeremy
did you test to see if the relay is bad?
95 3-4
You need to see if you have power at the fuel pump connector which is very near the tank. Simple test light work, should glow for 2 secs when you turn on the key and be constant during cranking. If power is there more than likely bad fuel pump, I have seen many fuel pumps with a bad spot in the pump motor where it wont go but it will go in any other spot, 1 in 6 or 1 in 10 times it will land on that spot. SleeperRed90TGp
Why don't you try the fuel pump test lead. Its right below the FP relay. Apply 12V to it if the pump runs you have an electrical problem. Could be as simple as a fuse. Jud

jeremy
Does any one have a photograph showing the fuel pump test point? I don't have a pic, but it is a single wire that is under the relay box by the aux post.

(by the aux post I mean)

ron350
Don’t think my 96 has one but it would still be nice to see a photo on earlier model.
