Psych0matt
So, my mechanic has my car done, all put back together and it drives, but stupid me forgot to do the oil pump o ring, and it leaks. No big deal for now, as I'll have plenty of time to do that after i bring it back down here. The real bad news is that my alternator that only has maybe 2000 miles on it (brand new as of about two weeks before the car died) now doesn't want to charge. Wasn't dropped or anything, came straight off one engine and mounted to the other. so, now I have to figure that out. But, keep on the lookout, I should have the car back in a few weeks! 99RegalGS
Ouch, sorry to hear that. How does it run though?
Psych0matt
from the sounds of it its running how it should, just needs to be broke in a bit (although I'll have to ask specifically when he calls back)
manitcor
what alt did you use? I have never had good expiernce with alts from anywhere other than GM or AC Delco directly. The parts store rebuilds are terribily unreliable. I went through 3 POS alternators in 15k miles.
Psych0matt
its a napa, the second one ive had as part of a "lifetime warranty". doesn't help much when it costs over 300$ to have a place swap it.
jdcutty
If you had it done by a shop the first time, NAPA sometimes gives the lifetime warranty on parts and labor. I know that is how it is on my cutty with my alt, timing belt, and wheel bearing.
SigEpCutlass
go to Napa and get them to pay for it using a loophole or something.
Psych0matt
well, the car is in michigan, labor was done in indianapolis, but my mechanic said he'll give me a break (hopefully a decent one). I was half tempted to spring for a 160 amp, but thought that an alt with less than 2k miles should work
White93z34
mabie i got lucky with alternators? the one thats in my z34 now came off my cutlass ciera, and it probably had 10,000 miles or so on it when it went on my lumina, now 2 years and an additional 50,000 later it still works fine, and it was the cheepest one advance auto sold at the time. but anyhow, glad its back in action, just in time for top-down weather. Crazy K
look at it this way... a leaking O-ring means a free undercoating for the bottom of your car!!! j/k glad to hear it is running. I pulled my tranny on my vert yesterday and am happy as a clam. Now all i need to do is fix the old one or break down and get a used one. wish me luck. 1990lumina
I'll agree that the reman alternators are shit.....the one I have (made by Bosch) whines like no other....oh well as long as it keeps producing the juice I don't really care, but it does get annoying. Anyway, at least it is running dude!!! COngrats
