Changing Front Strut/Shock...Differences In Years?

Was just curious,my 91 Lumina,I can change the front struts by removing the plates off the towers in the engine bay and with a special tool,take them out.Did they stop doing this after a certain year where you need to take the struts out from under the car and use a spring compressor to change them out?

nope. all first gens are the same in the front.

I meant later W bodies..is there 2nd gen and so forth?Any changes with newer W cars?

the newer ones yes. the 97- present prix', regal/century, etc all had the standard style struts where you need a spring compressor. but the 88-96 w cars (+the 97 cutlass) all had the cartridge style struts that i know and love.
