Mach5Gus
If there are any classic Pontiac fans aboard, you may be familiar w/ the SOHC in-line 6 Pontiac engien that was made from 1966-69. FYI, it was a belt-driven six w/ ~200-230hp, andf intended to be one step below the smallest V8s, with a regular and "Sprint" version with more power. This engine featured a SOHC design, with the standard 2-valve head. In the current (June) issue of High Performance Pontiac, there is a brief article about a company called Primatech that is working on a 4-valve DOHC head for this engine. And, my LQ1 brethren, they are using OUR ENGINE to do it!! Here ar a couple links: http://primatechmotorsports.com/ (Open the "Pontiac OHC" pulldown at the upper left, go down to "New Age Development", then click "DOHC".) http://primatechmotorsports.com/DOHCgallery/photo_gallery.htm <---- cool!! I don't know about you guys, but this has me *very* excited! There is a big following for the old SOHC straight-6 Pontiac, and if this DOHC conversion takes off, I feel that will be a boost for the LQ1 as well. If you look in the "New Age Development" section, there is a tab for VVT. There's nothing really in that section at the moment, but I get the feeling that, again, if this DOHC conversion makes them some money, they might go after a VVT version, which might even work for us. Rejoice, red-headed step-engine owners, esp. we Pontiac LQ1ers- a glorious day is at hand!

OldSkoolGP
i've known about that for at least 3 years. HPP magazine must have some good up to date sources They do. It's called 60degreev6.com! That guy who's making those heads asked to buy my 96 heads as well. I think that's gonna be just sick when it's done. I'd almost love to do a 65 GTO with that engine and a stick.

fastbird232
How is this going to be "a boost for the LQ1?" All I can see it doing is reducing the supply of heads that are out there.

Mach5Gus
Sorry it's old, but I'm glad some of you guys appreciate it, even if it's just for the gee-whiz factor. Honestly, I'd never seen it discussed before. How is this going to be "a boost for the LQ1?" Like I said, if this becomes the "hot setup" for the classic Pontiac OHC-6 guys, this company might pursue further developments, like a variable valve timing system, which might even be adaptable to our engine. Who knows what could come of it, esp. if we enthusiasts get behind it. I'm hoping to stay in touch with them about this; FWIW, I got an email from them, and they said they felt like both these engines left half their potential horsepower "on the table". I like their thinking. FWIW...
Euro
well i'll be the first to say that its the first time ive heard it!!!! thats some pretty interesting news Gus! I really like the OHC 6's that pontiac used. You dont see many at all in cars anymore of the 60's...everyone's using 400/455's! I remember seeing a 66 Lemans Sprint in an issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines one time, was the coolest car in the magazine!
