digitaloutsider Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 FUCK THE AUTOMATIC IMAGE RESIZING BULLSHIT My headlights were of the second-generation W-body plastic variety, so naturally they were seriously fucked up and hazed over. The only solution to this is to either buy new headlights, or to open them up and clean them by hand. The first option was out of the question because I have no money, and I wasn't going to do the second one without adding some little touches. So.. here's the result of roughly 4 hours of work: Blacked-out headlights. redimpulse Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Looks great! Any clue on how to get Impala headlights apart? Quote
digitaloutsider Posted March 22, 2006 Author Report Posted March 22, 2006 Very similar to mine. Put them in the oven at 180º for 5-7 minutes. Using a flat butter knife, start easing them apart at the front edge of the assembly. I also took a box cutter and went all around the light, cutting the silicone adhesive. Using a gentle, but steady pressure, ease the two pieces apart until they're both totally separated. When putting them back together, I used clear silicone and put a nice big bead all around the backing of the light and put it back together. I drove home in one HELL of a downpour the same night and experienced no leaking or condensation. Quote

sl3196 Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 So how did you make em black? (or can I not read? lol) Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 Im gonna guess like the VHT nighshades or something of the sort. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted March 23, 2006 Author Report Posted March 23, 2006 Flat black paint. I didn't touch the lens of the headlight except to polish it up. Quote
sl3196 Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 So what parts do you paint? The back part of the housing or what? Quote
digitaloutsider Posted March 23, 2006 Author Report Posted March 23, 2006 You can see it in the bigger picture a lot better. I painted the bottom of the housing, the very tip of the "slits" between the high/low/turn sections, the cornering light fixture, and the whole outer edge. Quote
jeremy Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 nice work, it is a very subtle change, but I really dig it Quote
