chadz34
It's a 1996 Lumina LS DOHC as most of you know. When I go out in the morning she starts fine, I go to school and by lunch time it has trouble starting. It cranks and cranks and cranks before it starts, what could cause this? When it's is real warm it starts fine most of the time. I just don't know what the hell is wrong with it! Help please!

I don't have the money to fix this damn thing. It better be something simple. Anyone else have any ideas?
GOT2B GM
My moms old 96 MC Z34 used to do the same thing sometimes. It would start fine cold, but then when you went to start it warm, it would take a bit of cranking to fire it up. Whenever I went to start it warm, I'd just *touch* the gas while cranking and it'd fire right up.
JakeMetz63
By any chance does your Tach needle jump when your turn signals are blinking?
5speedz34
Well, remember it takes spark, air, and fuel to start a car. I would systematically try checking each and every one. But, I'm going to say starter. When it does it try going under the car with a hammer and hitting the starter. If it starts you know what it is. Well, I can hear the starter cranking, and today the car ran and started perfectly. I know what 93luminaz34 is talking about, if you touch the gas, it at least trys to catch. But, it's messed because it ran PERFECt today....?
Prospeeder
My car does the same thing, right in the morning it fires right up, but when warm or later in the day it takes SOOO many cranks to get it started, i was told leaky injectors would do that, but I dunno, hope you figure it out, i too have no money
Canada
Leaky injectors would cause this......extended crank on a warm restart....most likely this is your problem. Heres how you can tell.....pull off the upper intake manifold and pull the injectors and fuel rail assembly out. With the fuel lines still connected, lay a sheet of paper under the injectors and turn the key on to build pressure in the rail. Then watch to see which injectors are leaking....and replace them. The low fuel pressure someone described before would show up on a cold restart as well.

chadz34
I am gonna try the paper thing Canada mentioned! Seems like a good idea. I am completely ruling out fuel PRESSURE. But, a leaky injector may be the case. Hasn't done it since I first posted this thread. It's like the Lumina has a mind of it's own. Thanks guys, I'll see if I can figure it out.
