What color primer paint does my car use?

 

My color is dark garnet red metalic, and recently I read for maroon colored cars you should use a rust color primer paint. I sanded a small section a while back and I noted there was light grey on the surface of the metal, however a very very thin layer of a redish color then the Garnet followed by clear.

 

I don't know if this reddish color was just the Garnet paint that bled into the primer when the car was origionally painted.

 

I could always test different primers on a piece of sheet metal, but I thought I'd give asking a try first. I have always used light grey primer and had a 98% color match.

house of kolor, i believe, makes pigmented primers for this situation.
