gtphill
Hello all, long time no post! I have a 92 Regal, and after fixing a few minor bits, I am contemplating replacing the rear leaf spring. My somewhat local junkyard has a 93 Regal GS in good shape. I've already pulled other stuff off it. The rear suspension is basically all there, and looks like it is good shape. The yard will not allow jacks. Can I SAFELY get the tension off the leaf spring without using jacks or the GM spring tool? Thanks!
Brian P
yeah. Undo the spring mounts under the car (the two brackets) Undo upper strut mount on one side (2 bolts- I usually do the drivers side but it shouldn't make a difference) The strut and knuckle assembly will flop down from the spring tension so be careful (you won't be under the car for this step so mehh). You may also have to undo the lateral link bolts on that knuckle and pull it outward, in order to actually get the spring out. I haven't had to do that last step ALL of the time. Dirty Rockstar
THis would be a good thing to add to the FAQ.. It will come in handy for those doing exactly this (Myself for the cutty) and for those who will be adding any type of Coilover suspension, or lowering leaf srpings..
