99vetteman Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 On my 94 Cutlass, 2 of the steering wheel buttons do not lite up. I inquired at the dealer and they claim I need to buy all 4 buttons and they come with the lights. To the tune of 400 dollars. Has anyone ever replaced the lights behind those buttons? If so, what do you need to do? Jason Quote
ToroToro Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 On my toro, I had to take it apart from behind, and desolder them. I used some bulbs from my parts steering wheel to replace them. But that steering wheel is very different in how it's put together...so yeah. IIRC, the button pods on your car are held onto the wheel with two Torx screws on each side, after you take it off the car. I would just pop them off and take a look at things. I'm betting the bulbs are soldered in there. Quote
badassoldspower Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 whats the sterring wheel in your car look like? I may have a whole piece I can sell you Quote

THe_DeTAiL3R Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 $400 EVER HEAR OF A JUNKYARD??? Seriously though, mine don't work either (the lights that is). On GPs you just gotta pop them out, something for me to add to my "to do" list... I unplugged mine because they piss me off. My CD player is nonstock so i dont need them anways Yeah, well that's what this is for... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-45Yp5QjIQ3L/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=118900&I=127SWIX I have one it works great. jeremy Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39164 Moving this to the audio section because these controls are part of the stock audio system. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Well, on the Pontiac controls, you have to pull the airbag to get enough slack on the wiring harnesses to pop the "pods" out. Once they're out, separate the front and back halves of the "pod" and carefully pry off the button faces. There are 2 lights per pod that are soldered to the circuit board. It's simply a matter of desoldering the old lamps and soldering in the new ones... Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 You can get the bulbs from parts-express.com. They used to sell them at Radio Shack too, not sure if they still do. Quote
