xN8x Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 My dad and I are looking at a cutlass to buy and fix up for me to drive. It's a 93 2 door supreme sl with a 3.1 (not 3100) and it's going to need to be replaced. What engines could I all swap in with as little headaches as possible and what's the ball park on either a rebuilt or a used one? Quote
5speedz34 Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 As little work possible? another 3.1. You could find a good used one for $350. Quote
xN8x Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 any chance of a 3.4 or a 3100? Cuz, the 3100 is a little more reliable. Quote
White93z34 Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 i woulden't say the 3100 is more relyable, its if anything less, with that intake gasket issue, but once thats replaced its fine. hell the 3.1 is a very solid engine. i'd imagine you could swap in a 3100 prety easy, just use the 3.1 fuel rail and computer + wiring and it ought to run a-ok. a 3.4 would be a prety straight foreward swap as well, it ought to be able to run off the 3.1s wiring too, but will need a different computer, and since the CS is a 93 it already has the 4t60e trans so you won't have to worry about that. xN8x Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 they're a problem at the mileage? My saturn wasn't a concern till about 70k Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 timing belt rule of thumb is ~60k. some may claim longer, but for the trouble it's worth on an inteference motor, you're better safe than sorry. Quote
