AWeb80
Where do I get dex-cool....does O'reilly's carry it? and are there other companies that make it?...or is it just the dex-cool brand?
Robby1870
Any ol' parts store will have dex-cool.
z284pwr
Don't use Dex-Cool, bad stuff, bad bad bad GM has stopped using it for a reason Dex was proven to sludge up the cooling system. Also it ate up alloy products, gaskets, and hoses. Your intake gaskets will love it....very much....
5speedz34
Dex-cool is fine if you change it and stay on top of it. But I don't want to get into that discussion. Get the pre-mixed stuff, in the long run it'll make things easier and IMO tap water has to many impurities. Also, if you want you could get some flush cleaner that will help get "gunk" out. I've seen how you take of you're car and I'm sure you're fine.
digitaloutsider
If your car came with Dex-cool, continue using it. There's no reason to switch. x2 on the premixed stuff.
AWeb80
Thanks for the heads up on the pre-mix stuff.... I had the coolant changed obviously when the head gasket went out....at ~77K.... I need to do it soon.
dakiln
If they put Dex-Cool back in it after they worked on it continue using it. That B*S* about them not using Dex-Cool anymore because it was so bad is wrong, they stopped using it because the other stuff is cheaper (according to the engineers I know at Delphi). Just make sure the bottle says Dex-Cool (I have only ever seen Havoline and Prestone brand Dex-Cool anyway) and it is pre-mixed.
DaveFromColorado
I always flush dex out with green. The green stuff is better as it doesn't gel up, and cause headgasket problems. Dex cool also eats alum. so when you go to redo your headgaskets, (which with dexcool is a matter of when, not if) they've gotta weld up the pitted areas before they can machine the head back to level. --Dave.
