DaveFromColorado Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 So I've got this sneaking suspision that my headgaskets are bad ... not sure why ... but it's one of them things that I just know is goin' wrong with the car ... Anyone from the Minneapolis area wanna help me do a headgasket swap here in the next few weeks, chime in now and lemme know! 1990 Buick Regal - 3800 (L27) w/Automatic Trans... --Dave. Quote
Crazy K Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 details? why do you think they are bad? Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted March 10, 2006 Author Report Posted March 10, 2006 it's a feeling I've got ... no proof. I noticed that it wasn't runnin' quite as good as I think it should be ... Oh, and it looks a little wet where the head meets the block bront bank, drivers side right by the transmission. I figure 181k miles, doin' the headgaskets isn't gonna hurt anything. I might do the timing set while I'm in there. --Dave. Quote
Crazy K Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 I would degrease and clean the engine and see if there is still signs of a probelm a day or so later. I'd wait till it was warmer. I don't even feel like changin my 95 cs's thermostat cause it's too cold... and your further north than me! I'm too far, sorry I can't help. good luck! Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted March 10, 2006 Author Report Posted March 10, 2006 Yeah, I'm certinally gonna wait till it's warmer, and when I've got the money for the parts ... but it's just one of those things, I'd rather get rid of the problem, before it becomes an issue. I was thinkin' I may even re-ring the thing too if the cylidners aren't outta round too far. Either that or I'll run to the J-yard and pick up an L27 and just rebuild it and drop it in when it's done ... make a weekend project outta it type thing. If I do go down the road of performance, I may just put in a small turbocharger that'll get me some extra power but not TON's of boost. --Dave. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 I'll sell ya my L27 next spring after I swap in an L67 into the Reeg. That is if sTeVeZaSyChO doesn't want it first. (He said he might be interested, so I told him I'd give him first dibs.) Where do you plan on doing the work, in your driveway? How soon are you thinking about changing out the gaskets? Hell if you can wait until after the first of April, you should bring 'er over to my place. I do have a garage, ya know . I'd have to put my Reeg out in the driveway though, 'cause I doubt it'd fly with the wife if I were using her "spot" in the garage for a few days . If you don't want to drive that far, I'd definitely be up to giving you a hand, but again after the first of April (we're taking a week-long road trip to Vegas next Sunday, so I won't be around...) DaveFromColorado Posted March 10, 2006 Author Report Posted March 10, 2006 ... I can wait till after the 1st of April ... and we can certinally use yer garage ... I'll even drag my compressor up there with me! --Dave. Quote
