if in doubt about the transmission....

find and read the tag on the right rear side of the tranny...

I do this by removing the right tire and using a mirror and flashlight......

Your tranny must be from a 3.4 model only, and may be limited to a 91-93 or 94 model only... anyone else certain>

Well, if the speedo doesn't work, and it is for sure not a cluster problem, than that would definately cause the trans not to shift out of first gear. The shifts are electronically controlled, so if the ECM is getting a speed reading of 0, the trans will not get the signal to shift. It could be a number of things. First thing to check would be the Speed sensor, and than work your way from there.
