Racing Help

I did search for this but it didn't have the specifics I was looking for.

Now I know my car has alot of miles (113k) so I don't want to be too hard on it, keyword "too." But I am in need of some racing help.

I like to mess around with my buddies and I need some advie on the best ways to launch in three diffrent situations..

First off and most obvious is off the line. What would be the best way when at a dead stop to launch and get maximum accerleration?

Second, at a 20-30 roll. Would it be best to gear down to 1st gear (with my automatic) and the punch it?

Finally when I am allready at a good 40 or 50 mph. What to do hear?

Thank you.

I found that the best way to launch is the following.

Stop- put the regular brake partially on and get the motor to about 1200-1500 rpm and let out the brake instantly, the tires might slip a little but will grip really fast and then you'll launch forward. (I usually shift mine manually, my motor is still pulling a 6000 though so I don't know if i'm stock or not, maybe if someone is ever going through cheyenne I can take them for a ride and they can judge for me)

Roll- slowly shift into 1st gear (not to fast or harsh, I usually put it in 2nd and give some gas to shift down then put it in 1st while the trans is in first). When you get it in 1st you should be good. If you have really good throtle response you can usually keep it in 2nd.

Hope that helps,

WyomingSTE

ok well manuel shifting an auto is BAD! :bash:

if you do that you will be needing a new car in no time.

the best thing you can do is get to know your car. and know to what speed your going to race it.

for ex. if your doing a 1/4 run put it in either D or 2nd Over drive is not going to give you the best time and you might suffer a bit with D. 2nd should be good to about 80-90 mph.

if your racing on the street put it in D that way when you let off the throtle you will shift to 3rd and not ride the trany.

other things to do to give you an edge are:

-take out junk from the car (100 lbs = 10 to 15 HP)

-keep the car tuned up... spark plug change, oil change, ect

-lower the front tire pressure for more bite
