92LuminaRS
Ok, this is for a friend of mine that came to me for help but I don't have a clue on this issue... So here I am with yet another question. I haven't a clue what could be his problem with this. But anyways, I'm lazy so I'm just going to post the convo. Brad says:bro, l changed my pump gota half tank and my pump ran twice then just stoped, What did l do wrong and l'v do this 3times now all new pumps just died 92 Lumina RS says: are you sure its the pumps? Brad says: well the first one l had was weak anyways BUT lasted the longest worked untill l shut it off then died the first new one lasted a woping 3min then just stoped the other new one l have currently lasted 30seconds l'm wondering is my computer over voltaging them or are they sucking no gas 92 Lumina RS says: check the voltage that's going to them with a multimeter Brad says: ya thats what l was gona check when l go home tomrrow, and if its over volting, what can l do? like run a switch from the battery with a 12V fuse to the pump and reroute everything 92 Lumina RS says: well i think the way that it is wired up is exactly that way, jsut with a realy 92 Lumina RS says: what year is your car again? Brad says: 1993 lumina 4door 3.1 4speed fullyloaded power everything 92 Lumina RS says: underneath your hood next to your aux battery terminal you will see a small fuse box type of thing 92 Lumina RS says: that is your relay and fuse for the fuel pump Brad says: really? my 91 had it by the battery But the 93 has it on the oppisate side in with the big rectangeled box 92 Lumina RS says: you should also see a red wire with a terminated connector end dangling around that area.. it looks like it's umplugged from something. Its a diagnostic wire for your fuel pump. touch that to the positive aux terminal and it should power on the fuel pump Brad says: a single relay and a fuse 92 Lumina RS says: it should have it by the aux terminal Brad says: l do have the fancy plug hangin by my air box, l kneww that BUT when l first tested the last time my pump didnt go , BUT when turned the key it did Brad says: well as crazy as it sounds my 93 has the relay and fuse in that box on the passenger side oppiste from whee it was on my 91 92 Lumina RS says: that should kick the pump on instantly Brad says: l'm really onfused l know that wire worked befor BUT didnt the last time and when l turned the key the pump went l'm really confused Brad says: what l really was thinking was l'm going to get 1more new pump "underwarrenty" not to be suspishes just 1more, l'm gona rip my tank out and forget about it. rip my rear seats out and put my tank there and strap it down. and test the harness to see if its overvoltaging and if it is, l'm just gona run a drag style switch board with a 12volt resistor from the battery 92 Lumina RS says: lol Brad says: does that sound lika good idea? or would l get nocked for a explosive unsafe tank Brad says: unsafe un vented 92 Lumina RS says: i think its very unsafe... lol 92 Lumina RS says: want me to ask over on w-body? Brad says: if you could that'd be great. 92 Lumina RS says: allright...
DaveFromColorado
has he ever bothered to change his fuel filter? If that's too pluged up, that'd cause the issue of the pumps dieing real fast. --Dave.
Pontiac6KSTEAWD
Or maybe the fuel pump relay?? Or maybe the Oil pressure sensor is not telling the computer that it is running, and not turning the fuel pump back on after it is running.. Pontiac6KSTEAWD
Hmm, looking at the subheading for this section, it is actually in the right section.. Powertrain Engine and Transmission Maintenance, Repair, and Performance Moderator Moderators Fuel pump makes the engine work, so is classified as engine repair. And we are trying to repair the problem with it.... Both are under the subheadings for this section. Not sure I see the issue here... jeremy
Hmm, looking at the subheading for this section, it is actually in the right section.. Not sure I see the issue here... That's because I moved it to this section.
Pontiac6KSTEAWD
I thought moved topics would have a little arrow next to them when they have been moved, like the 4 others in this section that do have that arrow. This one does not. Maybe I am wrong.. Wouldnt be the first time.
