19Cutlass94 Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 How are the calipers? If it seems like that are always touching thats gonna be either (most likely) a locked up piston, or the slides. Quote
dohc v6 Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 why would that make my steering wheel and pedal vibrate. also i noticed when the car cools down no more noise but when i start going it comes right back maybe 10-15 miles. Quote
joey b Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 sounds like the caliper sliders are sticking. Pull em off and work anti-seize into the fittings with some channel locks to move the sliders back and forth. If you bought the cheapie rotors that could be the problem with the vibrating. I'll never buy the cheapies ever again. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Normally with brakes its better to pay the extra money for the better quality parts.... Quote
cutlass1991 Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I've learned to always buy equal quality parts. For example, don't buy cheap rotors and then get high quality ceramic pads. They will rip the cheap rotors apart Quote
dohc v6 Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 I have these pads with these rotors. 1.pads-friction master ceramic pads 2. rotors-http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY-MONTE-CARLO-1995-1999-CROSS-DRILLED-ROTORS-FRONT_W0QQitemZ8042155537QQcategoryZ33564QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem the guy with the rotors is sending me out a brand new set. awsome customer service. Quote
dohc v6 Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 i will pull those bolts out and regrease them and clean them up. do you guyes think that is really the problem. how do they stick. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Well if the slides dont have any kind of grease on them, when you hit the brake they get stuck there and dont go back to there normal position. Therefore giving you problems. Quote
dohc v6 Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 ok i regrease the caliper slide bolts and nothing changed. it still viabrates horendisly(if thats a word) Quote
dohc v6 Posted March 4, 2006 Author Report Posted March 4, 2006 ok i replaced the pads as well now and i measured the rotors. still nothing. but i did noticed when i was pushing the pistions back in i pressed on the pedal and on piston did not come back out. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006  I wouldnt have pressed that pedal with the caliper off, it should blow out the piston. But seeing as how thats locked up, as it seems, you now know your problem. You piston gone. Dont bother with a rebuild kit, since there almost as much as a new caliper (minus the core charge) Also when you push the piston back in, did you have the bleeder screw open a little bit? I hope so cuz if you have ABS, itll fuck that up, pushing the fluid back up into it. Quote
dohc v6 Posted March 7, 2006 Author Report Posted March 7, 2006 no i pressed it in with it closed. anyways. I went up to discount and bought brande new calipers and still nothing. do maybe think the pads are to aggressive. they are ceramic. maybe they are messing the rotors up real bad. what should i do Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 If your going to use ceramic pads, you cannot use cheap ass metal rotors. Youll have to buy a good quality rotor. (atleast I found this case to be true for me I duno about some of you guys) Quote
