joey b
I dropped my pan and this was in there. 92LuminaRS
Mother of god that cannot be good  I say take it to a tranny shop and ask. I would suggest not driving the car though untill you find out. You might do some unknown damage :?
joey b
well, there are like 2 shims, IIRC that just sit there in the bottom, currently there is only 1. I have not noticed anything different about how it drives or shifts.

mfewtrail
http://members.aol.com/regal231/gp-55.jpg Isn't that the little retainer piece(can't remember what it's actually is called) on the righthand side in Ben's picture there? fastbird232
If Prospeeder were here, he'd tell you it's because you're not getting enough airflow to your radiator. Have you checked your valence lately?
slick
I just had my pan down not too long ago. It's one of the retainer's. Like you can see above on the right hand side of the picture, it just kinda hangs there. Mine was loose as well, but I believe it is supposed to hang in that fashion. Not really sure of its purpose, as it didn't appear to be "retaining" or holding anything in place.
Bossman429
http://members.aol.com/regal231/gp-55.jpg Isn't that the little retainer piece(can't remember what it's actually is called) on the righthand side in Ben's picture there? That's what I was thinking it was too. I almost sliced my finger open on that very piece last time I did my filter.
slick
I know it cut the side of my pinky figer. Didn't really feel it, cuz the tranny fluid was still nice and warm.

Turbo231
Looks to me to be that little support on the lower right of the picture. The question is...what does it hold in and does it matter...I'm sure it does, but it might not be a super tragic item. This picture curtesy of my Transmission Oil/Filter change procedure at http://members.aol.com/regal231/xmission.htm ...and this car is for sale...PM for details.
