Hi, I have a89 Buick Regal w/ a 2.8 v6... I like the engine, it runs great but I really want to install a 3.4DOHC engine!

Has anyone done this before??? I've been told it's not that hard... I have someone to do the swap, I would just like to know what too expect!!!

Any info would be GREAT!!!!

And, if anyone has done this... would you mind giving me a basic price overview?

Thanks for the info!!!!

Considering you'd have to replace the subframe to fit the 3.4 DOHC, it would be easier to install the 3800 Series II which will be more reliable, get better fuel economy, much easier to work on, fits your existing subframe, and can pull ahead of the 3.4 DOHC off the line. Not to mention they're easy to modify to run 14's while only one 3.4 DOHC that I know of has ever even gotten close to 14's.

Use 3800 Series I wiring, computer, and sensors and it should be plug & play. You could also install the 3800 Series II SC which will be the fastest and easiest to modify for speed and power, but then the wiring will be the challenge.

If you still insist on the 3.4 DOHC, you would need all underhood wiring, tranny, and subframe.

^ what he said.

What's gonna happen when the need for speed strikes with the 3.4?

Wishes...that's what. The LQ1 Genie dosen't grant them easily, that's for sure.

Just swap an L67 in... pulley swaps & Thrasher's headers for the 3.8 pwn me.

Really? Got any links?

I know KickinZ, but who else?

I looked on your forums and didn't see much other mention of it, but I did see KickinZ broke his CV shaft. Holy crap, I thought those things were solid!!!

Im waiting for my friend to go to the track, but he has more mods than kicking Z, just no headers.

THe rest of them are in Fieros:P hehehe. I think dykz34 might run a 14 this year as well since he ran a 15.1 last year. Its slowly happening...DOHC owners are doing mods to their cars instead of bitching all the time (ok they still do that too).

too bad you sold it!

Yeah but the firehawk runs low 13s (13.2 to be exact).

Yeah I'll be the first to admit it, I miss the Z34 BIG TIME. I've said it before and I'll say it again, they may not be the fastest thing but NOTHING compares to the way they sound and feel. They are so raw and unrefined in a good way. Like a race motor IMHO.

Depends on which you like powerband you like. I personally am in love with the DOHC power band and find it difficult to drive 3.1's now, I want to rap them out past 4k but they just quite going that high.

Chances are that if you found a 3.4 motor it would still be in the car so the wiring and subframe would be right there for the picking. I will not argue the point that the 3800 is easier to work on, but the 3.4 isn't too awful hard.

as for times, kickingz ran a 14.3 (5spd), bowtiekid a 15.0 or lower (5spd), and dykz34 a 15.1 (auto :P). Mine ran a 15.6 stock down to the air filter and I know it will probably never see a 14 sec slip ;)

unless your talking about the l67 the plane 3800 can be stomped by the 3.4.

I wouldn't say "stomped"... and there was a plain 3800 in a Monte with just simple exhaust and intake mods that could run a 14.7s 1/4-mile which effectively stomps most 3.4 DOHC's.

The 3.4 DOHC doesn't respond as well to simple intake/exhaust mods and instead requires cracking the engine open to make any serious power.

I personally prefer the lower-end power band... I don't even feel comfortable revving my 3.4 DOHC much past 4000rpm because it sounds like I'm hurting it! I guess I'll have to try to get past that if I want to go fast in the 3.4.

As soon as the light turns green, I can take my buddy's Intrigue all day long with the 3.8L in it. The only thing its got on my car is 500lbs :D

Once you get past the un-easiness, its quite addicting :P
