95oldsVan Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Someday down the road Im going to rebuild the 3.1 and wanted to know if the head bolts were TTY type?Do you need or is it suggested to use new headbolts when rebuilding the engines? Also, whats the best compression ratio one can run on pump gas with a good cam?I mean safely though and ideally as well? I do know if plans were to call for a turbo or something later Id have to opt to keep the compression low but for naturally aspirated 3.1's,whats the idea place to look at? I would more than likely keep the egr functional as well, seeing it helps lower combustion chamber temps at part throttle driving.I never seen it as a performance dog unless these engines are better without them? Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.I know of the V6 web site but rather ask you guys here for the general consensus and info for the time being. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 for the best compression ratio on pump gas.... 11:1 is really pushing it. 10.5:1 is your best bet. and for compression with a turbo, youd be looking at roughly 8:1 or 8.5:1 but no higher. Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Yes, the head bolts are TTY and you MUST replace them. Personally I would leave the EGR on as well. Quote
