Arfur
My car was leaking oil due to old reused vavle cover gaskets and when i changed my plugs they were cover in oil as well. I changed the spark plugs, wires and valve cover gaskets because my car would warm up and stall out, and I had to 2 foot it to get it to my friends house where we worked on it. Now that I've got all that fixed it still stalls out when it warms up and my buddie scanned it, he's a mechanic, and none of the sensors were bad so we're thinking that the cat is fouled. My exhaust is kinda rough and probably needs to be replaced along with the cat, so my question is will my car run fine with out a cattilitc converter. Oh and by the way it's a 92 z34 lumina. I'm kind of working on a small budget most of which has already been eaten up so the more money I can save right now the better.
TeeJay3800
It will run fine without the cat. I haven't had one in years...
Crazy K
you car should run fine without a cat, but I like not breathing the pollution that comes out of a cat less car. and don't forget the legality, if anyone where you live cares. Where do you live, do you have emissions testing? Does the cat glowing red hot?

Does anyone make an exhaust kit for a 92 z34 lumina?
Crazy K
red hot = bad cat. *cough* hollow it out *cough*
PCGUY112887
I'd say throw on a new one, doesn't make a huge performance difference and you'll be helping the air. Cars that have no cats smell like ass anyways.
92LuminaRS
I've never had a cat on any car I've owned, makes the exhaust sound soooooo much better
jeremy
Cars that have no cats smell like ass anyways I have had many cars that I have straight piped and I have never had a noticeable difference in smell :wtf: Arfur: just go to a local muffler shop and have them make you a system, I don't think there are any mass produced setups
fastbird232
The cat went out on my GTP, and now the exhaust sounds like hell. I think the cat took out some of the raspiness.
97loudcut
The cat on my 3100 id fine but would the performance/sound gains be worth taking it off?
92LuminaRS
I don't think you would get any performance gains at all actually... But the sound is much more aggressive
fastbird232
I think on a 400 hp LS2 engine, removing the cat would get you noticable gains in horsepower, but on a 3100 it's not all that worth it. From my experience in having a broken, gutted cat, the damn thing is just too loud now and I haven't felt any increase in performance even with the more powerful engine. Arfur
Well for now I think I'm just going to have the car towed to my house becuase I have to go job hunting on monday. I gotta try and find a job that doesn't require a temp service, getting old. But anyway while we're on this topic of getting my exhaust done on this car what would be a good system or muffler for this car. I kind of want something with a little more rumble than it has right now, but don't want it extremely loud, that's what my 79 ford pickup is for. what exactly is the resonator for, do I really need that if I put some mufflers on there with a little less restriction and what mufflers sound good on a 3.4 DOHC. I figure that might persude me to hang on to it a bit longer, it's hard to think of selling the car when it's got a jasper motor with 30k on it. gp90se
without a cat on my 3.1 car, my mpg dropped Magnaflow muffler on a 3.4, everything else is raspy.
