Just check the timing belt. I've never had any major problems, just minor stuff that every person has.

leaky headgasket due to sub freezing temps romping on it to get to work on time without letting the motor warm up. mileage 198k miles. still runs great but cant put alot of presure on the coolant system without it leaking again

Posted

first thing I would do is remove the timing belt cover and take a quick visual inspection of the belt condition....

111,000k isan't that aprox 65,000 miles?? i'd check the timing belt. i love my 4t60e personally, its been awesome to me for this past 50,000 miles.

three responses all at the same timestamp that all say "check the timing belt"

So do our comments that everyone said timing belt at the same time! ROFLCOPTER!!!

Alternator is an easy repair.

Cue the 'how fast can you do an alternator swap' argument in 3...2...1... :willynilly:

There aren't really any huge things to look at other than the belt that wouldn't be the same as any other engine. No hidden tricks.

This thread is HOT! Everytime I reply like four people have replied! HOT SHIT! WOOOOO! THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT, BITCH!!!

alternator is not a bad job even if it pukes, and i know you have the ability to do it.

i haven't done a belt yet but i will be doing one very shortly. i'm sorta nervous going into it, but i'm sure its not that bad.

SEE!?!? IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!

FASTEST THREAD EVER!!!!

No, but seriously, you're also gonna wanna check for oil pump seal damage.

I plan on doing my belt this summer sometime. Will be my first one, and I'm kinda excited about doing it, as odd as it sounds.

They really aren't bad engines at all, I have owned two w-body's with the LQ1 in them and I would huy a third one without hesitation....I think you should get one and then boost it.

From the one pic and the given description, it is certainly worth a look. I'd also look under the car and expect suspension bushings, CV boots, etc.

i will attest to how relyable my LQ1 has been, i've had it for about 50,000 miles now its not once left me stranded. always fires right the hell up. the worst i've had was the pump drive seal, a IAC go south, and an alternator. and i might add my current alternator has been in the car for 50k now and has more then that on it (65-70k) and its still going strong. i've taken the car on countless long trips without thinking twice, its all in preventive matniance.

Ask when plug wires have been replaced, they're about $50 for a cheap set. If they're old, get him to knock some change off the price.
