jeremy Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 first thing I would do is remove the timing belt cover and take a quick visual inspection of the belt condition.... Quote

Grand Moff Joseph Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Alternator is an easy repair. Cue the 'how fast can you do an alternator swap' argument in 3...2...1... Quote
fastbird232 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 There aren't really any huge things to look at other than the belt that wouldn't be the same as any other engine. No hidden tricks. Quote
fastbird232 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 This thread is HOT! Everytime I reply like four people have replied! HOT SHIT! WOOOOO! THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT, BITCH!!! Quote

White93z34 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 alternator is not a bad job even if it pukes, and i know you have the ability to do it. i haven't done a belt yet but i will be doing one very shortly. i'm sorta nervous going into it, but i'm sure its not that bad. Quote
fastbird232 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 SEE!?!? IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!! FASTEST THREAD EVER!!!! No, but seriously, you're also gonna wanna check for oil pump seal damage. Quote
slick Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 I plan on doing my belt this summer sometime. Will be my first one, and I'm kinda excited about doing it, as odd as it sounds. Quote
jeremy Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 They really aren't bad engines at all, I have owned two w-body's with the LQ1 in them and I would huy a third one without hesitation....I think you should get one and then boost it. Quote

Grand Moff Joseph Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 From the one pic and the given description, it is certainly worth a look. I'd also look under the car and expect suspension bushings, CV boots, etc. Quote
fastbird232 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Hey now, also look at the sunroof, make sure the switch works. Quote
White93z34 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 i will attest to how relyable my LQ1 has been, i've had it for about 50,000 miles now its not once left me stranded. always fires right the hell up. the worst i've had was the pump drive seal, a IAC go south, and an alternator. and i might add my current alternator has been in the car for 50k now and has more then that on it (65-70k) and its still going strong. i've taken the car on countless long trips without thinking twice, its all in preventive matniance. fastbird232 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Ask when plug wires have been replaced, they're about $50 for a cheap set. If they're old, get him to knock some change off the price. Quote
