1990lumina
That's because the Japanese motors are all DOHC high revving motors that require more maintence. I'll scan the suggested service intervals and what should be checked from the owner's manual from my mom's CL lol....holy shit And yeah, the 3800s are fuckin awesome motors. I will say they are better the the 3.1 as far as reliabilty......well at least I've never heard a 3800 sound like a diesel engine on cold starts like my car does
ihateallmustangs
I think the aluminum head 2.8 and 3.1 are awsome engines that take a beating! i have plowed a 2.8 GP over 300k i know what you mean about cold startups tho! Crazy K
300k ia about 180,000 miles. I'm at 209,600 miles they are both good but both have their faults.
nebojsa_o
they last till they catch on fire That's like the 3rd time I've seen someone mention L67 and Fire in the same sentence... I don't know much about the L67, so what's this fire business all about?
Crazy K
I've seen more 3.1 and 3100 burn than 3800, but not by much. It's hard to tell, But I believe all the fires I've looked at were caused by leaking injector rings. Except... for my roomate's ex's car, which must have had the cat clog and actually set wires near the manifold on fire.
dbtk2
In all my experience with FWD GM cars I will definately say that the 3800 is more reliable than any 60*. I'm not saying 60*'s aren't reliable, just that the 3800 is more reliable. This is why I am not worried about my 202k mile GP GT. The engine has at least another 202k in it, and the trans is rebuilt so looks like I got a lot more left. An L67 will run forever, so I wouldn't be scared away by one with 160k miles on it. My moms '00 SSEi has had the shit beat out of it since day one and it has 160k on the orignal engine and trans, and it gets oil changes about every 8k miles or so, and had the trans pan dropped at 70k miles for a new filter and fluid. Other than that its had basically no maintenance and the thing runs awesome still. It had a lower intake gasket leak at around 70k as well, but thats a simple fix and nothing a 60* wouldn't have done. Shawn
