ragejg Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 I'm going to have the TCC finally replaced on my 125-C... but heck, I've put 5k on the car with it posing as a slightly high-revving plain-'ol 3 spd, and I've come to enjoy the 3rd gear responsiveness with the TCC disabled. Sorta like an OD switch on trucks, would I be able to do something similar, and enable myself to choose when the TCC is functioning? I'm not sure of this because I have no idea if the 125-C is ok with this sort of action with the transmission in gear. Thanks. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 you can power the TCC solenoid manually but you risk the chance of burning up the converter if it engages too early, or disengages too late. --Dave. Quote
Crazy K Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I disagree with the above... I think you are assuming that the tcc would be under complete manual control. You should tap into the tcc circuit, with a switch, so you could disengage it at will... if the switch completes the loop(on), the tcc would function normally, and if you break the loop (off) the tcc would be off. The tcc has a disengage switch linked to the brake pedal. It breaks the circuit when the brakes are pressed, disengagiong the tcc. I think if you figured out which wires it is, you could lengthen one of the wires and add an inline switch on the dash, allowing you to control it. I do not think it would cause any harm, although you may not want to turn it on if you are moving at speed. Quote
Brian P Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 all you have to do is send a grounded wire to the TCC apply wire spliced. I had this briefly when diagnosing a TCC problem on my old tranny. Quote
Turbocharged400sbc Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I'm going to have the TCC finally replaced on my 125-C.... you mean your gonna have the TCC solenoid replaced right? this is the part i've changed alot on those tranny's...the seat cracks or the solenoid experiences an electrical failure... you can get a much better aluminum housing (as opposed to the plastic housing oem) TCC solenoid from SONNAX or another aftermarket source as a much better repair. your manual TCC engauge switch (SPST) should be wired inline with the TCC wire in the blue 4 wire connector to prevent TCC activation with the switch open (off) and allow normal operation with the switch closed (on), grounding the circuit is not nessesary and can possibly trigger a code, though it may not on the older "dumb" ECM's. regards, James Quote
