Psych0matt
So, probably going to buy a 96 lq1 from a fellow member here, but few quick q's.' Intake is off, i can use all the stuff of my 94 (as far as I know that's all interchangeable) i seem to remember something was different with the headers or something, is that true? is there anything else i should know before doing this? is everything directly interchangeable otherwise? Basically, putting the 94 intake on, a starter, new alt, and gaskets, but what should I look out for that might pop up?
94CutlassSLCoupe
you would want the 96 intake anyway...
Psych0matt
I know I would, but so does the guy I'm buying it from! 8)
slick
I dunno about that. I would like the 96-97 style engine with the 91-95 intakes. Mainly due to that the 96--97 has higher compression, and the 91-95 is better for low end. Would make for fun.
Psych0matt
hmmm, well that's what I'll have. I'll let ya know how it feels. Anyone else? I'm just afraid I'm overlooking something, but hopefully not

jdcutty
change that horrid LQ1 belt & maybe the tensioner too!!! I hope you mean the timing belt, cause the serpentine belt only takes like 5 min.
Psych0matt
well yeah, that I know, but i mean as far as getting it into the car and getting it to work
slick
It'll be fine. I think there will be a few plugs you don't use, but don't quote me on it, as mine is a 93 body with 95 engine. But, if i'm correct, you will have an extra cam sensor on the front bank you won't have to worry about, and oil level sensor in the oil pan you won't have to worry about, and something else that I'm forgetting. joey b
you'll be good to go. You might have to replace some of the OBD II sensors with the equivalent OBD I's
Psych0matt
anyone else have anything to say?
JakeMetz63
Simple swap, did it in August. I had to weld my EGR into place though. If you to drive the 96 with the 94 intakes Chris, ill meet you at Maxwells and take you for a ride next time im in Toledo.
dohcfiend
it is basically gravy since u are keeping your 94 intakes. 1. keep that spacer behind your oil filter from your 94 and swap it to your 96 motor. 2. remove and plug the oil pressure sensor on the 96 motor. 3. take your coilpack bracket from your 94 and mount it on your 96 motor. 4. on your 94 motor, there is a coolant connection very close to your wp and on the 96, it is plugged. simply stick a 3/8 extension into the 96 plug and remove it, then use the appropriate wrench and remove the 94 coolant nipple(basically it is a connection to your heater core). 5. yes the 96-97 heads are different. while u can put a 91-95 intake on with np you are stuck with the 96 exhaust manifolds. to make this work in your car is almost gravy. 6. remove the 2 EVAP tubes and plug them. 7. your egr tube is different on your 96. you can either plug it altogether and have your chip modded or you can have it adapted. if that is the way you want to go, you may be in luck. back when i did a 96 swap into a 94 lumi, i had an adapter made. it allows you to run your current EGR with the 96 manifold. if you want the adapter, i can sell it to you for 50 bux plus shipping. off the top of my head, that is all i can think of but it should cover most if not all of what you will run into. NOTE: relocating your coilpacks is still an option if you want to go that route. if so lmk and i can tell you how. **edit** btw my hat's off to you for sticking with the lq1. you are the man

I wanna see how that feels with the bit higher compression and the manifolds for the lower end. I know mine has 10.5:1 compression, which is definately higher than yours, with the 95 intakes. I just wanna compare the differences.
