Spoon Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I have an '88 cutlass supreme with a 2.8L and a '93 cutlass supreme with a 3.1l, both autos. The 2.8L blew up and I want to throw in the 3.1L from the other car. Is there anything I have to change over, or will it just bolt up and plug in? Do I have to swap computers? thanks Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 You will need the MEMCAL chip swapped from the 93, and the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) swapped as well. I know that for sure, not sure if there is much else (other than the airbox). The wire harness for the MAF sensor you'll just need to use the 2 wires for the IAT sensor on the new airbox... Quote

White93z34 Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 not to mention, you will need a 3.1/2.8 4t60 wiring harnas from 89-92, since 88' has that screwball maf setup. Quote

Do I have to swap computers?thanks Hey Guys, Will this 3.1 engine not run on the 2.8 MAF set up? I thought with the MAF set up,he could just use his 2.8 computer and prom and the MAF will help the ecm compensate for the extra air flow into the engine. I didnt see why he would have to change anything unless he was using the tranny from the other car too. Just asking thats all, because Im curious as well to how much of a change the engine would have to have before the stock programming wasnt adequate enough. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Dropping the MAF is so simple, you might as well do it. On my 88 GP I changed the chip/VSS/airbox to a 89 style (square airbox). I used the existing MAF harness... you will be left with the extra wires from the MAF but will use the IAT wires, no big deal. Quote
