FordBoy
would a bad coil for one piston make a 2.8 lose the ability to squele tires at a stop sign and get worse gas milage than a 1996 jeep cherokee straight6 or do i have a bigger problem
5speedz34
LMAO....most 2.8 can't squeel the tires. But yes it would.
herb427sc
Unfortuneatly,When you lose a coil you loose 2 cylinders.
FordBoy
it sounds lke it has one piston fireing to late but the flow at the tail pipe is fine i have a bad lifter but that shouldnt kill mpg that much and it has sqeeled the tires so many times from a dead stop at a stop sign
Supreme Cutlass
get a spark tester
FordBoy
how would that kill the mpg so much if it is down 1 i think it is either a few wires or the coil but the wires dont appear to be cracked have rust on the conections or anything like that which leaves tohe coil but i think i will but new wires if the problem still exists is has to be the coil
GP1138
Then replace the coilpack(s) and tell us if you can squeal the tires again.
jdcutty
um......wow. Thats the first time I have heard someone recognize they have a problem when they cant squeal the tires with thier 2.8 My guess is your problem is the road wasn't wet this time. Crazy K
could be a bad plug! simple spark test... stick a screw driver on each plug, one at a time, lay it on top of the intake manifold, and crnak the motor. If you have two that fail to spark, they are likely on the same coil, and that coil would thus be bad.
Crimson Fury Z
your best bet is to position the front tires on the white paint line on an upward incline. trust me, it works!
FordBoy
the spark plugs are new i just changed them a few months ago it had the miss than and it still does and just because ur 2.8s cant sqeele the tires dont mean mine cant 8) just because ur car sucks dont take it out on mine :flip:
Crimson Fury Z
then check your coils and or ignition module(i assume the 2.8 has one). mine, after running crappy and taking some force to turn over finally threw the icm code. replaced the icm and coils(might as well do) and that fixed it. Your 2.8.
R Dubya
Hey I drove an '86 Z24 Cavy with the 2.8 and it would scorch the tires, for about 10 yards. Now the '89 with the 3.1 would literally smoke them. Could possibly have a bad injector. Who knows. First thing to do is pull the plugs to see if one is wet. Then go from there. Are we talking GM 2.8 or old school Isuzu 2.8?
fastbird232
LMAO....most 2.8 can't squeel the tires. But yes it would. Aw hell, where the hell did my thread from last summer go? Where I floored my '89 SE at an intersection and never counted on my tires squealing which drew the attention of a nearby state trooper who seemed to have a problem with the fact I had no insurance, registration, or title for the car? Dammit, that was a good thread! Anyhow, after new plugs, wires, oil, trans fluid and filter, oxygen sensor, and a Seafoam treatment, the car (which had been sitting in a field for over a year) just roasted those hides.
