92SL Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Hey guys, I'm new to the forum here & I just wanted to know if I can get some advice. car is a 92 cut supreme. It's been idling pretty rough for some time now wit no codes. So far I've changed: plugs(old ones looked pretty good), fuel filter, cat converter, Idle motor, tps. I was told that the ign module has a high failure rate & replaced it with a used one. In the process of doing this I somehow disconnected the map sensor vac hose, so when I went to drive the car it bogged out badly, smelling of gas. So not knowing I accidently removed the map sensor vac hose, I replaced the coil pack & mod with the old one & then realized the hose was undone. NOw the cars back to it's original state where it idles rough with the occasional "buck" while driving. Question: should I put the other coil pack & module back or could ther be a prob elsewhere? Regal_GS_1989 Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I would put the other ICM(Ignition Control Module) back on and try it like that. BTW, my car has never thrown a code when the ICM would fail and the car would start to miss. Quote
NeonKnight Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Fuel pressure regulator? when my ICM went bad it just died on me once i was getting on the freeway in a turn about, i almost went off the edge. Quote
92SL Posted February 7, 2006 Author Report Posted February 7, 2006 Neonknight, sorry for making light of it, but that's pretty funny-that would've been a true kodak moment . I will put the other icm in & hope for the best. Could the map sensor vac hose being disconnected cause such extreme drivability probs Quote
Supreme Cutlass Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Silly question, but did you do an idle relearn after that? Quote
92SL Posted February 8, 2006 Author Report Posted February 8, 2006 yup, but I didn't do it until after I drove the car realizing something was wrong. Then I did it. Do you know if you have to do this after every time you disconnect the battery too? Quote
Kaline Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Yes, you have to do the idle re-learn procedure after every time you disconnect the battery. The procedure is (http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php/topic,31176.0.html). Let me know if you figure out your problem - my '90 Cutlass has some of the same problems. Quote
92SL Posted April 1, 2006 Author Report Posted April 1, 2006 hooha! thanks for the link kaline. After changing the plug wires that repaired the "bucking" during cruising speeds & IDle relearn combined with a good cleaning with the intake spray ended up with smooth idling & descent acceleration. Thanks for all the info everyonel Quote
