Did GM really make stock mufflers that sound like this?

I figured I'd just start a new thread. My 1992 Cutlass Supreme has a dual exhaust and even though the mufflers say GM on them, I'm kind of skeptical on whether or not they are truly stock. If you listen to the sound clip, I can assure you it doesn't sound like something you'd put on a car stock!

What do you all think? Also, does it sound nice compared to aftermarket mufflers? (BTW the sound quality is sub par...but still gets the point across)

Sounds jst like my Lumina w/ 3.1 and factory muffler

If you want I can try and find two vids I made...one of my exhaust, and one other one has some exhaust in it as well.

Sounds like they're on their way out and you might have a small leak somewhere. Little raspy.

its okay i have 2 dual chamber flows on my car, only prob is exhaust shop guy did an H-pipe kind of thing... and over charged me... (was a family friend too :( ) so i am going to have my friend weld some pipe up the way i want it, with a Y-Pipe like i originally told the guy!

im sure i have an exhaust leak somewhere, and i bet my cat is bad lol. my car still has most of the original parts. including most of the engine compnents, excluding the alt, plugs/wires, shit i bet the PCV is old as hell. i know for sure it has been about 30k miles since a new one was put in :D i have one in my room i just cant get to it... lol

i need to rock the engine or get someone with small hands and a flood light so we can see what we are doing.

I would go to a j/y and cut off a stock resonator from a 94+ and add it to your car!

Next time I'm in Indy at a friends yard, I would like to get the entire cat back exhaust off a dualed car to add to one of mine x3!

It's not too loud, I'm not complaining at all..I think it sounds great!! It may sound raspy due to the poor camera quality, its not that bad in R/L....

What brand of mufflers would sound better on my car? What benefits would I have by putting 1 muffler before the Y-split (maybe glasspack so it fits) rather than using two?

I have cheap Walker mufflers (about 1.5 years old now, got them from Davis for $100) with the original resonator, it's pretty quiet. I wouldn't get old rusted crap from the junkyard, might be hard to weld on.

actaully the J/Y OEM stuff is stainless steel. coupled with being from a low mileage car means it will have plenty of life. I got the Y pipe and both muffler intact till just ahead of the rear axle for $20 from a 100k 94 Z-34 and installed them on my 93 lum. And muffler clamps worked fine for me, although I do put antisieze on the threads.

Last time I was at my favorite J/Y, they had two 95+ Z-34 with duals, and I believe that installing them on my 95 CS can be done right at the flange between the cat section and the rear section. no welding and it will look totally stock.

I've rarely seen any j/y car with mufflers that weren't rusted through from our era. It'd have to be off a car that just got them replaced before it ended up there.

Alright, here's what I plan to do on the cutty...I have read that using 1 muffler before the Y-split will reduce raspiness, so I'm planning on putting a Flowmaster Hushpower II in there, it should fit, it seems skinny enough, and having an exhaust shop weld me together a nice catback system....with some crome tips on the end...has anyone ever heard what the HushpowerII sounds like on a V6? I want to know what it will sound like before I spend the money doing so....also, will the Y pipe distort the sound at all since it will be after the muffler?

What do you all think?
