Rev limiter when in "2"?

ok so i was playing around with my car today and decided to see when would happen with the shifter in "2" and the engine brought to the redline. i assumed that some sort of rev-limiter/fuel cutoff function would come into play. so i threw her in 2 and down the onramp i went. went to 5500 and shifted into 2. down to 4k.....5k....5500.....5600.....5700....5800.....5900. at this point, i quickly threw it into overdrive. shouldn't something have stopped it?

well uh yeah i don't think im going to try that again to find out for sure.....that engine didn't sound like it wanted to be at even 5900.

A 3.1 is plenty smooth and safe at 5900, but its not producing any power up there. For best performance, you're best off shifting between 5000 and 5500.

It isn't going to hurt the engine to rev it that high. You won't make any power up there but the engine should stay together with pretty much no problems. There is a rev limiter and you will hit it if you are revving it too high.

With my car putting it in 1st and leaving it there, the thing will eventually shift into 2nd and stay there.

You're not too far off!

My factory dyno shows that at 6,000 rpm, a stock 3.1 is making 105 HP and 100 lb-ft of torque.
