Speedwagon Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 89 grand prix.. how do I make it stop telling me to do maintenance on it.. like change air filter, oil, rotate tires. And what is proper procedure for setting the compass? I only know how to set the newer GM compasses.. drive in circles til yer dizzy.. Quote
stevenjoseph82 Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Haha.....i hate those annoying service "bulletins" (as i call 'em)......i don't know how to get them to stop, but the compass can be set like you said for the new ones......hit calibrate and start spinning....i got in a parking lot and did some reverse donuts in clockwise fasion.....then point north and push the set north button Quote
Speedwagon Posted March 25, 2003 Author Report Posted March 25, 2003 Does direction matter? In a '99 blazer, I remember it being counterclockwise. Though it didn't have a "north" button. Quote
Redfox340 Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Doesn't it have directions / instructions in your owners' manual? I read mine a year after I bought my Cutlass (figuring I knew all, yeah right...) and found some cool little extras on the car I didn't even know about; like finding out about the tap increase / decrease for the cruise control... - RedFox340 Quote
JS91Z34 Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Wait for the bulb to burn out or put some black tape over it Quote
stevenjoseph82 Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 I'm not sure if the direction matters or not. I had a friend who's mom drove a 96 blazer with that overhead console with the temp and compass in it. I remembered his dad saying something about doing reverse circles to set it, so i tried it and it worked. Basically, all I know is what I did worked. Just try it out. Quote
NeverSayDie Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 HA HA he said retarded and wan't talking about ignition Quote

But it didn't, so that's why I asked. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 If you don't get an answer by 5pm, send me a PM and I'll look it up in my manual. It doesn't matter what direction you spin for the compass. The only difference between it and the newer compass mirrors is you have to push NORTH to set True North while facing True North (if you don't push that button, it uses magnetic North). The newer compass mirrors use zone #'s to set True North based on where you live. Quote
Speedwagon Posted March 26, 2003 Author Report Posted March 26, 2003 How am I supposed to know what true north is? Everything that would tell me north, would be magnetic. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 According to the owner's manual, to reset the service interval reminders just press SERVICE until you get to the one you want to reset and quickly press the "REST" button (which I think is a typo for "RESET"). As far as finding true North, I forgot to check, but I think they say to use a North/South street that you're certain is truly North/South. Anyway, I never set True North because down here in Missouri, magnetic North is close enough! Quote
stevenjoseph82 Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 I don't know how much you plan on using this compass, but if you're a little off on north it's not really gonna matter too much is it? I mean I've really never used the compass to "guide" me. Quote
NeverSayDie Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 Yeah really cuz if you wanna go north, you might wanna do it on the road. You can't just turn until the compass faces that way and then plant your foot in it! :-) Quote
Speedwagon Posted March 30, 2003 Author Report Posted March 30, 2003 Well, I just moved here. And I have a bad habit of just driving around somewhere, and getting myself lost. So, a compass that is properly oriented would come in handy.. Quote
musthavemuzk Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 you will be just fine speedwagon. Monty Quote
