ripp Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 new to w-body and would like to know if you can see the ub3 cluster in a convertible with the top down ? also what year can i use fo a 94 cutlass with a 3100? Quote
Grand Moff Joseph Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Given the overhang that is built into the Cutlass dash, I don't think sunlight/glare would be a problem for you. Are you trying to swap a UB3 into a non-UB3 car? BTW, welcome to the boards! PS-If you are trying to do a cluster swap, and have not yet found a UB3, I have one to sell to you Quote
ripp Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 yes i have been thinking of it any pis of one Quote
Grand Moff Joseph Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Well, I don't have any pictures of the specific one I have for sale, but there are some pictures of another member's Cutty covertible that has a UB3 from the factory in the following link: http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36479&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=ub3&start=15 A better pic of the UB3 can be seen here: http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33311&highlight=ub3 Basically, if you want to do the swap, you'll need a cluster (obviously), and you'll need to change the pinouts in the wiring harness that connects to your gauge cluster. You can either: A) Do it yourself Purchase a wiring adapter from one of our members http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31378 Quote
ripp Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 will one from a 89-93 work find with the right pin outs ? Quote
Psych0matt Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 into my vert... and they only had the ub3s up til 91 or 92 (i forget) so yes, you have to get an older one. The pinouts are on the main w-body page, but be forewarned, I've heard of some people having major troubles putting one into a 94. I think i have some other helpful things i got from other members if you get stuck, but mine was very straightforward, except for a dimming problem I have yet to fix (it goes about half dim with the lights on, but doesnt dim variably like it's supposed to, but I almost like it) edit: Oh yeah, and I dont ever remember having a problem seeing it, those suckers are bright! ripp Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 i will have to go to the jy and pick one out i had seen 3 of them there what is a good price for one Quote
Psych0matt Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 probably anything around 40$ or less would be about fair, don't pay more than like 60ish though, they can be had for under that. Check out ebay too, they sometimes have some Quote
ripp Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 jy wanted $75.oo for it and 35 for the dis Quote

ripp Posted March 20, 2006 Author Report Posted March 20, 2006 need the pinouts for a 94 can anyone help? Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 the RPO code is actually UB3 for your original dash...that's the digital UB3...it looks cool, but my car has HUD so i really don't see a reason to change. I do have an extra cluster at my house though Quote
ToroToro Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 need the pinouts for a 94 can anyone help? Check the other thread of yours about hooking up the DIC. I'm pretty sure I posted it there. Quote
mixe olds Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Get the UB3 from a j/y with one of those wiring harness from another member is the way to go. It makes life much simpler to go back and forth between instrument gages and installation is a snap. The issues I have had with the gage swap was dimming of the cluster and making the tack work. Those things are easily fixed by splicing into some wires. I usually don't have any problems with viewing the UB3 with my top down, I say go for it. I bought my UB3 at a local j/y for $25. Quote
ripp Posted March 20, 2006 Author Report Posted March 20, 2006 got the ub3 put in today ! just need to fix the dimmer and put in a oil sender now Quote
