bartonmd
OK, I searched and didn't find the exact info I was looking for... QUestion is about a '92 Lumina 3.4L... Can you pull the trans out the bottom without taking off the subframe?? Thanks, Mike

bartonmd
Next question: I have a cherry picker... Is it easier to remove the whole shootin' match out the top than to just remove the subframe and trans out the bottom? Mike
sl3196
If you don't have a lift, I would do it out the top for sure.
bartonmd
Is the 3.4 one of those engines where you just take off the power steering, fuel, intaks, exhaust, and one wiring harness connector and the engine comes out? The last engine I took out of a car was the '91 Impulse we used to rally race, and it had the harness all around the compartment, so you had to disconnect every connector on the whole damned car to get it out... Including all the injectors and everything... So, how bad is the 3.4 to get out other than the obvious space issues with shoe-horning a DOHC engine in that compartment? Supreme Cutlass
can't you use an engine support fixture and take it out?
bartonmd
Yeah, that's what you do if you're taking the trans out the bottom, but it just depends on if it's easier to do that, or take everything out the top? Mike
joey b
take it out the bottom. Pulling the 3.4 up with everything in is quite a task. Also, if you pull the transmission from the bottom, you can leave the engine and a large number of the wire connectors in place.
