stockgp Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 my mom's 95 loomie just blew a rear brake line and all the parts stores are closed. she's got to be at work tomorrow, and i'm jsut hoping i have enough time to replace it and bleed the brakes. first question, does advance, auto zone or napa sell pre-bent lines? these are the only parts stores within a 20 mile or so radius, so i have to shop at one of them. also, are the lines pre-flared? if not, just at a quick glance the lines look like they are double flared. is this the case? i don't believe the parts stores rent a flaring tool with double-flare attachments. last, how much is this going to cost to replace? it's about a 4 foot line from the rear driver's drum to the junction just in front of the trailing arm mount. the one that runs to the pass side is pretty rusty, too, so i think i want to replac eit. how much is that one? Crazy K Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 you would have to bend them yourself. I would not buy from autozne or advanced, as their lines are much lower quality than the OEm ones. for a relativley simple 4 foot line, you should probably just buy a wholw line. However what I would do would be to get a steel line compression fitting. (like the type you would get in a fuel line repair kit, but those are brass) Do not use a brass one for brake line. Use a tube cutter to cut the line and splice on a section of new line from there to the drum. http://volksweb.relitech.com/brakeln.htm this is the right IDEA, but You should NOT use BRASS only STEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Personally I have always got used lines from junk cars(rust free and still usable, only), and spliced them with this steel union into my lines. Quote
stockgp Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 i already have the old line off, and the fitting on the drum end was so rusted it broke the braek line. i'll have to get a whole new line Quote
stockgp Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 and it just fucking gets better. so i replaced bother rear brake lines and cut off the rusted parts of the fron to rear lins and put on new fittings. great. grand. freakin spectacular. now i go to bleed the brakes, and i round off both of the damn bleeding screws on the drums. on top of that, i can't get the pass. side rear wheel off to get better acces to the bleeder because the fucknuts that inspected the car summoned the power of fucking god to torque the lug nuts. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Quote
AWeb80 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 now i go to bleed the brakes, and i round off both of the damn bleeding screws on the drums. Vice Grips work wonders.... Quote

stockgp Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 ok vice grips clamped as hard as i could get them finally worked after i heated the metal around the screw with an MAPP torch. bleeder screws i will get when i got into town in a few minutes. i just made a run and everything seems to be fine. there is still a little air in the pass side line since i couldn't get the tire off to get vice grips on the bleeder. i'll take care of that another day. now i' going to get a shower and feel human again Quote
