sanderson Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 I'm putting a 1990 2.3L Quad 4 transaxle in a Fiero. There is an adapter available to use the Fiero slave in place of the plastic externally mounted Quad 4 slave. The downsides of this are: -Fiero slave is smaller diameter so pedal force is higher -Must shim master cylinder or use adjustable banjo to cut down stroke of slave cylinder -Aftermarket Fiero slaves have checkered reliability history. OEM are hard to find and pricey Now on the Quad 4 it seems that the early ones (87-92) used the externally mounted slave. The master cylinder, slave cylinder and tubing came as a unit. There is no bleeder on the slave. You apparently bleed it by dropping slave lower than master cylinder and pressing slave plunger to force liquid back to the master. I can see how it could work on an FWD car. In a Fiero where slave is in back and master in front, I can't see this bleeding process working. In 93 GM apparently went to a slave that is internal to the bellhousing. The throwout bearing and slave are one assembly. A hydraulic line sticks through the bellhousing and there is a quick connect coupling. The master cylinder and tubing are one unit. I'm paranoid about a slave inside the bellhousing where you have to pull the transaxle to work on it. The question is are there any other permutations for Quad 4 or V-6 Muncie/Getrag 282 5 speed clutch hydraulics? Ideally I'd like to find an OEM slave cylinder that is standalone with a threaded connection for the hydraulic tubing and also has a bleeder on it. Quote
Intlcutlass Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 I would ask this guy: http://www.cardomain.com/id/standard Although they did put the quad in these cars, I'd be willing to bet, you will either get no more reply's, because these cars MOSTLY had 2.8/3.1/3100, or if you do get another reply it may not be the info you need. I hope you find the info you need. Quote
skalor Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 You should really ask the guys at the forum over at http://www.fiero.nl There are a ton of guy over there that have done a ton of all kinds of swaps including the Quad4. I love Quad4s, and a '91 Cutlass Calais 442 W-41 package is my dream Oldsmobile next to the '90 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera International 2 door turbo 3.1 conversion I plan on doing. Quote
