95oldsVan
The reason I ask this,a Corvette Tuner and Mechanic told me this a few years back, said the 3.1 has what we all know today of has the the fast burn style heads and to use the lower octane gas to make it run right. He said these heads were designed to use regular gas and that using premium or better was not good for these engines. When he made the comment that these heads were the earlier smaller design of the famous fast burn styles found on more popular V8 engines today with the voretc design. So I figured I would ask here,is there any truth to this?Did these heads have the first of the the fast burn design before they got put into vortec motors? Robby1870
By fast burn, are you referring to the combustion chamber shape? I dont think premium gas will hurt them though.
corning_d3
My '96 3100 had those heart-shaped combustion chambers. Looked an awful lot like the Vortec cambers...
Vegeta
2.8 got them first in 88. Premium won't hurt but its a waste on a stock motor or even near stock. I ran premium for years before I knew better and the motor was fine with it.
