why is my paint so crappy, its flaking off. i would like to paint my car in the spring, but it looks like i will have to take the paint completely down to metal. does anyone know why the paint is just flaking off. :?:

its GM's crappy primer they used in the early 90's. It happens to 95% of every car/truck/van/suv that GM painted white in that time frame

My 1988 GP was grey and had HORRIBLE!!! paint. Peeled like a mofo..

 

The paint on my 95 is very good, except for the spoiler which peeled but I just used a couple cans of colormatch and it looks good now.

 

FWIW on some of the newer Centurys I've seen rear bumper paint flake too...

I must have one of the 5% cars :shrug:

 

Sand it down to the metal and respray everything...only way to do it

I bet people that bought paint protection when the car was new are laughing their asses off now! :lol: Well worth it!
