CutlassSL91
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVERSAL-EXHAUST-SYSTEM-RESONATOR-3-1-2-IN_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33630QQitemZ8031493362QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I have never seen a spiral once like this before. I don't really care if it restricts the exhaust slightly, i just want the drone out. Anyone seen these before?
mfewtrail
I've seen those before on ebay and also have seen "mufflers" with this type of design. From what I read about a "muffler" from Moroso(and some other brands) that has a spiral core very similar to that, it's supposed to split the exhaust stream up into two paths going through the muffler/resonator to reduce noise levels(a lot of places claim that they significantly reduce the noise level inside the car, while maintaining a throaty sound that can be heard outside). They also stated that those type mufflers will cause very little backpressure. I believe the end they show in that picture is the outlet, the inlet side should look like this. http://www.brcdieselperformance.com/images/DSCF0062.jpg EDIT: I just looked at the resonator in the ebay auction again and that spiral core looks to be a bit extreme compared to other "spiral cores." I would email the seller and see what they have to say about it.
CutlassSL91
Yea, that one in the ebay pic looks to be a lot more "extreme" when it comes to the ridges inside. So these reduce the interior noise pretty good?
Darksyde
Most of those just like glasspacks can be used with the inlet at either side. The pic shown in the ebay ad , if that were the inlet it would muffle the sound alot more than if you used it the other way. We put a set of glasspacks built just like that on a 350 at the shop. With that side being the inlet. To reduce the noise......it sounded so god awful the owner wanted them off only after about 30 min worth of driving. It made a wierd low pitch chirping that you could hear just under the rumble.
CutlassSL91
geez that doesn't sound good. Maybe i should stick with the standard helmholtz type. How about this kind? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-Universal-Exhaust-Resonator-Catless-Test-Pipe_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33636QQitemZ8031571977QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Darksyde
What's the inside look like? Sounds like just a str8 thru muffler design. Which wouldnt be bad IMHO
chadz34
Does the stock Z34 have one muffler and one resonator, or are they both mufflers? I think the one on the right is the resonator.
