GutlessSupreme
If I were to install a vacumm distribution block, how exactly would I route the new lines? Would I just route one big line from the port on the back of the plenum to the dist. bloc, seal up the top of the TB, then run 1 line directly to everything else? MAP, EGR, BOV, etc? Does anything need to be hooked up any specific way? I'm not too good with how most of the vacumm stuff works.. I'm looking for a neat way to get rid of all those pain the ass plastic lines, since I just broke half of them anyway. also, anyone have the part number for a new vacumm reservoir ball? You can buy new plastic vacuum line from advanced. I would stick with the plastci, but you can also splice two pieces back together with a little junk hose. I've reinstall broken vacuum balls before. What broke on the ones I used was the plastic mounting surface. I took some packaging plastic (like the type a discman would come in) cut a strip and punched holes and installed the ball with the plastic to sandwich the ball's damged tabs, and screwed the nuts back on. Makes it a bit more flexible as well to resist damage.

digitaloutsider
Fuck plastic lines. I had rubber lines in the Bonneville and loved them. I wasn't worried about snapping the fragile pieces of shit every time I touched my throttle body.
Guest TurboSedan
old brittle plastic lines = bad. new plastic lines = good. i've considered the distribution block thing too and while it was GREATx3 on my old GTS, it just doesn't make much sense on an LG5 IMO. Bossman429
Yeah, it would be kind of odd on an LG5, unless you can find a dist block that has the inlet in the center, but one like on the GTS would look really odd, but I guess if you are looking for functionality, the block would do it. As far as both of my cars, I just used rubber lines over the plactic ones where they broke near the nipple, so it's pretty much all rubber line, except the nipples. Here's the Vac block that Josh put on the GTS for reference, if needed. http://photobucket.com/albums/a348/bossman429/GTS/?action=view¤t=HPIM0733.jpg (Can be seen in the top right of pic)
Guest TurboSedan
i bought that distribution block (nickel plated single sided 6-port block) from McMaster-Carr along with most of the fittings. the big 90* source fitting on the end that screws into the intake manifold came from a local supply store. with the combinations of the right source fitting and distribution block you could make it look good on an LG5, but routing the vacuum lines to everything might make it look ugly and/or impractical. i'm not sure if the EGR and purge solenoid could even be sourced from an aftermarket distribution block anyway since some of the passages in the factory distribution block (on top of TB) depend on throttle blade angle IIRC. the MAP, FPR, BOV, and aftermarket boost gauge could all be sourced from an aftermarket distribution block though. i still might put a short distribution block at the back of the plenum on my TSTE, but i would only use it for MAP & HVAC/cruise (to elimate the lines under the plenum) and for an aftermarket boost gauge. it wouldn't replace the block on top of the plenum though, as that would still be the source for FPR and purge solenoid (and EGR will be gone). my BOV will be sourced from the nipple behind the throttle body on the plenum itself (will not be used since i'll have a manual transmission) and of course the boost controller will be sourced from the fitting on the compressor outlet on the turbo itself.
